Just like the other teams, the Belgian team also participated in World Space Week 23. We participated in an exhibition at ESTEC, ESA’s technical HQ, at Noordwijk in the Netherlands.

With the fair stand ‘AstroSounds’ UCLL took part in ESTEC’s Open day on October 8th 2023. Visitors could listen to the vibrations of stars and try to hear a difference between different types of stars. Our Sun sounds more like a boiling pot on the stove whereas RR Lyrrae stars sound more like a violin. ESTEC’s open day aimed especially at people with disabilities.

By making stars audible, we brought the starry sky to people who are visually impaired. Enjoying an unspoiled starry night is important for all people on Earth, as well for current as for future generations. That’s why the Erasmus+ project ‘the dark side of light’ is so important.
