Description
Spain is a country of extraordinary cultural richness and diversity, with its roots deeply embedded in history. Founded by the Phoenicians in the 8th century BC, Cádiz (Gadir) is the oldest city in Europe, marking the Iberian Peninsula as a crucial hub of Mediterranean classical civilization. Over the centuries, this land has seen the influence of Phoenicians, Greeks, Romans, Carthaginians, Iberians, Celts, and Tartessians, followed by Visigoths, Vandals, Jews, Arabs, and Berbers, all of whom have shaped its unique cultural tapestry.
Andalusia, with Córdoba as the jewel of Al-Andalus during the Middle Ages, became the epicenter of European civilization for nearly a thousand years. The region's rich history of cultural convergence, where religions, languages, and ethnic groups intersected, left an indelible mark on its heritage.
As Spain evolved into a unified kingdom, it launched the first great wave of globalization during the Modern Age, exploring new lands and creating trade routes that connected Europe with Asia and the Americas. This era brought cultural exchange, the spread of the Spanish language, and the rise of a civilization with a universal vision—Hispanidad—shared by over 500 million people worldwide.
Today, Spain's 17 diverse regions offer a vibrant mosaic of cultures, each with its own languages, traditions, and artistic expressions. Andalusia, home to Flamenco, the Alhambra, and the sun-drenched beaches of the Costa del Sol, stands out for its artistic heritage and intercultural abundance. From the Celtic traditions of Galicia to the inspiration of Don Quixote in La Mancha, and from the cosmopolitan allure of Madrid, Málaga, and Barcelona to the tropical paradise of the Canary Islands, Spain is a land where history and modernity coexist in harmony, offering a unique educational experience.
