Hello Shallows & Bees!
HELLO SWALLOWS & BEES!
During April, the teams had the opportunity to search for elements of their daily lives that are present in all the collaborating countries, serving as a connecting link between the teams. After research, they concluded that swallows and bees are animals that can represent spring and are simultaneously at risk due to climate change. Thus, the schools were divided into two large teams: the "Swallows Team" and the "Bees Team".
At the beginning of their activities, each team conducted field research to identify birds and insects in their area, aiming to connect students with the environment. Then, they chose two elements from their discoveries and gathered more information on posters, which they encoded with QR codes. Their results were compiled into digital presentations, and the teams met online to present what they had learned.
The "Swallows Team" collaboratively created a dice featuring bird movements and then met to play by mimicking the movements.
In the next phase, both teams recorded what they knew about the species on a histogram and discovered what they wanted to learn. Subsequently, they created a digital gallery with their creations from recycled materials, showcasing swallows and bees using various techniques.
On International Children's Book Day, they read stories about their subjects outside the classroom and celebrated Outdoor Classroom Day. They also discovered swallow nests and beehives in their area and talked to experts. The "Swallows Team" made nests from natural clay, as swallows face significant difficulties finding mud due to climate change. The "Bees Team" focused on the importance of bees to the planet and the valuable products they produce, proposing recipes.
Additionally, the teams created their dictionary with the words "swallow" and "bee" in the languages of the collaborating countries. For the presentation of the words, they used crafts made by the students.
Furthermore, the "Swallows Team" linked the activities with the countries' folk traditions through each country's songs. Similarly, the "Bees Team" created its own coding game with a path that the teams represented in the yard, aiming for pollination, as the bees passed by representative flowers of each country to collect nectar and take it to the hive.
Finally, both teams created a short video"Talkative Swallows & Bees" summarizing all their new knowledge, the dangers, and messages for a better future.
The activities concluded with a meeting of the two teams, where they collaboratively painted swallows and bees.
