FRANCE

 

LEARNING TO COMMUNICATE IN A FOREIGN LANGUAGE

 

Oral communication is a priority when learning foreign languages in class. Pupils need to be able to communicate to facilitate their mobility in Europe and throughout the world.

Efforts are being made to increase exposure to the language :

 

- Nearly 4,500 language assistants from 66 foreign countries work in their mother tongue in schools.


- Ciné lycée offers 1,000 world heritage films in their original version in all lycées.


- Video-conferencing in schools to encourage contact with native speakers as part of language learning.


- Long-distance exchanges with other European establishments : the European "eTwinning" programme, virtual exchanges between French European sections and English Specialist Schools.

 

- Pupil mobility through Community programmes (Comenius and Leonardo da Vinci for vocational training) or bilateral agreements signed with countries such as Germany, England, Scotland, Spain, the United States, etc.

SCHOOL PROJECT

 

As you can see, our e-Twinning project is in line with our School Project :

 

→ Allow as many people as possible to master the knowledge base and take (and pass !) certifications

→ → Promote access to culture and develop European openness

→ → → Develop actions to promote modern languages (e-Twinning, language battles between schools, etc.) and scientific disciplines.

→ → → Promote mobility and organize school trips in Europe (Local project for the SEGPAs (= special needs pupils), trips and/or exchanges, etc.).

 

 

PART PLAYED BY MISS HICKSON

 

Marjorie Hickson usually teaches Maths in English in our European section (DNL).

She exceptionally agreed to support me from mid-February to mid-May. She did a great job analysing the survey responses with the pupils. Data are her specialty. She used to be an engineer in the American aeronautical industry.
