Non-formal learning methods for supportive learning environment

The main objective of the course is to introduce the resources of non-formal learning methods for supporting teachers' work, and students' development and learning processes at schools and educational institutions. Participants will become skilled in a variety of non-formal methods, games and tools aimed at creating and sustaining functional, favourable and inclusive learning environment.

Description

Programme:

 

  • Day 1: Traditional welcoming. Getting to know each other in a friendly & playful way. Introduction to the course and presentation of the timetable. Explanation of practical arrangements & information about the course venue.  Personal learning & action plan.

 

  • Day 2: Icebreakers as a method. Team-building games. Reflective practice, guidelines on how to use the learning diary for reflection and self-evaluation. The learning process and key competencies of life-long learning.

 

  • Day 3:  Energizers as a method. Formal, non-formal, informal learning: where is the difference? Principles of non-formal learning. Ladder of participation. Fostering an active learning environment with non-formal learning methods.

 

  • Day 4: Including non-formal learning methods in formal settings. Choosing the right method, adjusting to different groups of students (incl. students with special needs). Excursion.

 

  • Day 5: Non-formal learning indoor and outdoor. Connecting with Nature. Mindfulness exercises for reducing stress & anxiety.

 

  • Day 6: Preparation of personal tool-box of non-formal learning methods.

 

  • Day 7: Key learning points, action plan, conclusion. Feedback as a method. Evaluation.

Learning objectives

Competencies that will be developed by participants of the course:

 

  • Understanding principles, values and characteristics of non-formal learning & practising facilitation of non-formal learning for young people;

 

  • Understanding how the needs and interests of young people (including young people with special needs) could be better addressed by non-formal learning methods;

 

  • Choosing adequate non-formal methods for supporting the learning process at school: icebreakers, energizers, team-building games, feedback techniques, etc.;

 

  • Developing personal reflective practice, learning how to use it for fostering students’ development & acquiring mindfulness techniques for reducing stress & anxiety;

 

  • Collaborative & experiential learning will promote interaction among participants in the whole programme & create favourable preconditions for further cooperation.

 

Other details:

 

  • Target groups: teachers (pre-school, primary, secondary, vocational, special needs), adult educators, teacher trainers, career officers, educational guides and counsellors, headteachers and principals.

 

  • Supportive learning materials of the programme will be sent to the participants in advance.

 

  • The training itself will not be built on lectures or presentations, but on searching effective solutions and inspiration for the participants' practice, discovering experiences of other countries and spending valuable time together.

 

  • We make tailor-made programmes according to the organisation's needs if the whole group is from one organisation.

 

  • Participation fee: 560 €. The amount includes preparation for the course, training, training materials, organizational costs, and cultural and social programme. Accommodation and meals are not included.

Methodology & assessment

Methodology: learning through experience and cooperation, searching for solutions together, study visits, outdoor education, person-centred approach.

Assessment: participant's self-analysis, toolbox of methods to take back to the sending organisation, group reflection.

Certification details

Certificate of achievement the learning outcomes and Europass Mobility Certificate if required.
