Description

Effective communication is the cornerstone of a thriving school environment, and this course is designed to help educators master communication skills using cognitive-behavioral therapy (CBT) principles. Through theory, practice, and group activities, participants will explore how thoughts, emotions, and behaviors shape interactions and learn to foster trust, empathy, and collaboration in their schools. The course begins by examining the critical role communication plays in relationships with students, parents, and colleagues. Participants will identify common communication barriers, such as cognitive distortions, and analyze their personal communication styles. Active listening and emotional awareness are introduced in the middle of the course, with hands-on exercises emphasizing empathy and non-verbal communication cues. Participants will then focus on mindful and assertive communication, practicing ways to provide feedback, express expectations, and manage classroom dynamics.

Learning objectives

  • Identify communication barriers and cognitive distortions that hinder effective communication in schools.
  • Use CBT-based techniques to manage emotions and facilitate constructive conversations.
  • Apply active listening and empathy to enhance interactions with students, colleagues, and parents.
