Empowerment in ICT Skills -Making Use of Technology Tools 1 week

Many teachers and educators feel overwhelmed by technology today, or would like to use it more, but don’t know how or where to start. This practical and skills-based one-week course is aimed at those who would like to further develop their ICT (Information and Communication Technology) skills and make use of various Web 2.0 Technology tools and programmes.

Description

This course is specifically designed to develop your skills in technology and ICT.

During this hands-on, practical course  you will be given the opportunity to try out all the programmes introduced to you.

You are given the skills and tools to incorporate ICT ( Information and Communication Technology) in your everyday teaching.

You will explore areas such as setting up Blogs, Websites, Podcasting and others.

You will also have the opportunity to reflect on the tools and activities presented during our practical sessions. You will also be able to discuss and exchange ideas with your fellow teachers in a cross-cultural environment.

Due to the immersion factor of all our courses your own English language skills will be developed.

We will also introduce you to relevant websites that will enable you to further develop your teaching skills & personal professional development.

Learning objectives

To enable better skills in technology and ICT

To introduce an awareness of ways of integrating ICT with teaching methodologies, using hands-on & experiential methods

To help teachers reflect on their own teaching methods in relation to technology in the classroom today

To help participants experience hands-on a range of interesting tools, software and programmes which are available as freeware, & set up activities

linking methodology and technology today

To further develop participants’ own language skills

To experience the cultural heritage of Malta with its bilingual linguistic environment

 

Methodology & assessment

This course is taught interactively, with input sessions, collaborative and group project work. Participants are actively involved in all sessions.
Input sessions are in the form of hands-on workshops and could involve brainstorming, analysis and at times problem-solving.
Sessions help participants set up tools such as Blogs & Websites and apply online tools in a scaffolded setting.
Participants are asked to reflect on the tools & activities, inviting discussion with regard to their own knowledge & skills, their approach to teaching
today’s students, and on adaptation of the use of the tools to their teaching & learning situations & contexts.
Exchange of participants’ ICT and pedagogical knowledge is encouraged through discussion.
Participants’ own language skills are developed and feedback given where appropriate.
Participants are also introduced to appropriate websites related to the further development of their teaching skills & personal professional
development.

Follow Up
The course ends with an evaluation session, where teachers are asked to reflect upon the value of the knowledge gained on the course and its usefulness to them

Certification details

At the end of the course a signed certificate is handed confirming participation on this course  and presenting an overview of all modules carried out during the course. Each certificate will also state exact training days and number of hours on which each trainee has participated.
