Description

This training course is designed to empower teachers to use the digital skills available to perform their teaching duties as well as use the resources available to enrich their teaching techniques.

Digital competences are part of the European Commission’s key competences for life-long learning. The purpose of the project is the forming of specific competences regarding the usage of the digital tools available to perform their profession better and to improve communication with students.

The aim of this course is to enable participants to introduce Information technology in class and apply the acquired skills to make knowledge accessible through information technology by exploiting and creating digital resources for teaching and learning, as well as to introduce the usage of digital technology in everyday life and to keep up with the youth. Schools use a diverse set of ICT tools to communicate, create, disseminate, store, and manage information. In some contexts, ICT has also become integral to the teaching-learning interaction, through such approaches as replacing chalkboards with interactive digital whiteboards, using students’ own smartphones or other devices for learning during class time, and the “flipped classroom” model where students watch lectures at home on the computer and use classroom time for more interactive exercises.

Learning objectives

The objectives of the project are:

  1. The development of the abilities necessary for using the available digital resources;
  2. Dominating basic digital skills
  3. The importance of developing the relevant digital competences to learners and teachers, as well as the pedagogical use of technology in teaching, learning and assessment.
  4. The course provide teachers with practical guidance to the use of a range of ICT tools and how to integrate them into teaching and learning processes with their students. -- To reflect on how ICT can enhance students’ learning and can help them to reach learning objectives within the curriculum. -- To help teachers to design and implement motivating activities for their students by using ICT within a new framework of multiliteracies and critical literacy principles. -- To help participants to develop their communication skills in English. Methodology: Participants will enjoy hands-on workshops, interactive sessions, collaborative group work and reflective journaling. This methodology should enable them to use ICT in class and to exploit and create ICT resources for teaching and learning. Teachers will also have sessions to analyze ways in which Information and Communication Technology can redefine the concept of critical literacy in class and its implications for students’ learning.

Methodology & assessment

Methodology:
This course adopts an inclusive and hands-on methodology to impart basic digital skills to non-IT teachers, ensuring accessibility for participants with varying levels of technological proficiency. Classroom sessions involve step-by-step guidance, interactive demonstrations, and collaborative exercises to build a solid foundation in digital tools and technologies. Practical applications and real-world examples cater to diverse learning styles, while incorporating group discussions and peer-to-peer learning fosters a supportive and engaging learning environment.

Assessment:
Assessment in this course revolves around gauging participants' progress in acquiring basic digital skills. Formative assessments include regular quizzes and hands-on exercises to evaluate understanding and application. Practical projects challenge participants to apply digital skills in designing teaching materials or incorporating technology into lesson plans. Additionally, a final project allows teachers to showcase their proficiency in utilizing digital tools for educational purposes. Continuous feedback and peer assessments contribute to a comprehensive evaluation, ensuring that non-IT teachers gain practical and applicable digital competencies.
