Learning to read and write from a constructivist perspective
This course aims to recognise the psycho-evolutionary characteristics of children that influence their ability to learn to read and write. In addition, it will take into account motivational aspects and appropriate contexts and teaching methods, without forgetting the contributions made by neuroscience about when our brain is ready to undertake this learning.
Description
The literacy process consists of the acquisition of reading and writing skills that are associated with different domains of human development: communication, cognitive, artistic, personal well-being, citizenship, ethics and morals, and learning. The acquisition of language through reading and writing is part of the integral and holistic development of individuals. Traditionally, we associate reading and writing with mechanical processes, memorisation, motor development, among other competencies and methodologies necessary for this learning, and we recognise that there are pedagogical strategies that have been useful in supporting students. In this same context, we educators find ourselves between the curricular and cultural demands of literacy (the age at which students "must" know how to read and write) and the motor, cognitive and even emotional development of the students. Within the framework of a culture of thought and under a constructivist approach, and taking this context into
Learning objectives
- To know of the different methods of learning to read and write.
- To support the teaching-learning process in the constructivist approach and thinking routines.
- To discover the contributions provided by neuroscience. To find out how the learning brain learns.
Methodology & assessment
The practical workshops will focus on activities that allow participants to apply the concepts learned in the course in the classroom. Participants will also have the opportunity to collaborate with other professionals in this field and share their experiences and knowledge.
Theoretical presentations by experts will provide a solid foundation in the theories of learning to read and write from a constructivist perspective, as well as best practices for the inclusion of this topic in the daily work.
The evaluation of the course will be based on demonstrating the ability to apply the concepts learned in the course by presenting an action plan to promote effective techniques for students to learn to read and write.
In addition, a feedback form will be provided to participants at the end of the course to assess their satisfaction with the course content and the quality of teaching.
