Description

The main objective of this course is to introduce practising language and CLIL teachers to innovative pedagogies enabled by a number of emergent technological developments so as to empower them to assess the relevance for and potential impact on education and their personal work context.

Activities and topics to be covered include:

  • Experiencing 3D worlds and augmented & virtual reality contexts.
  • Exploring the educational potential of some selected Artificial Intelligence-based applications including lesson planners and an introduction to ChatGPT and its potential and implications for Language Education
  • Design principles for collaborative learning and virtual exchange tasks & activities

Learning objectives

The course aims to familiarize particpants with:

  • learning with augmented and virtual reality offering opportunities for remote presence & participation and supporting learners to understand concepts, practise skills and perform tasks.
  • Using Artificial Intelligence-based applications such as chatbots or virtual assistants as educational dialogue facilitator, learning problem analyser or guidance provider.
  • Corpus-based pedagogy and applications
  • Telecollaboration for language learning
    Using communication tools for collaborative language learning and development of intercultural communication skills

Methodology & assessment

For the introduction to the topics and their supporting technologies (final selection to be negotiated on the basis of the intake questionnaire results) hands-on activities, tasks and simulations will be used involving the participants as learners. Followed by debriefings sharing experiences and reflections on their educational and second language acquisition potential.
In addition related project results, documented practices and teaching and learning materials will be studied and research findings presented.

At the end of the week delegates will demo, discuss and assess a (micro) teaching unit for local practice and other teaching & learning materials that they created during the hands-on sessions.

Materials, digital tools & other learning resources

Participants will be offered a virtual learning environment (VLE)  to access the course materials, tools and resources which include daily overviews of course activity & task instructions, related task completion templates, polling, reflections and task results sharing tools and lists with (further) reading & viewing materials. 

After-course access to the LMS will be made available to promote follow-up communication and collaborative learning when exchanging (re)designed local practice.

Certification details

Personalised certificates will be made available for those participants who signed off the issued daily attendance lists and successfully completed the various course activities including the final course product.

The certificate document includes the key course information including the number of tuition  & learning hours and the main topics covered.

So requested individual EuroPass documents will also be updated.
