
Apps & authoring tools to help CLIL students improve reading skills and expand their vocabulary.
This course targets teachers who are (interested in getting) involved in Content and Language Integrated Learning (CLIL) and/or Language for Specific Purposes (LSP) in vocational / further education or who would like to update and/or expand their use of technology to support their teaching.
Description
To create common ground this course first provides an overview of the general principles of Content and Language Integrated Learning (CLIL). Further activities aim to equip educators with the skills to create lesson plans and related digital materials that support specific CLIL methodologies.
Activities and topics to be covered include:
- Comparing samples of CLIL methodologies and sharing personal practice.
- Presentation of design principles for a digital CLIL lesson plan, including hands-on materials
- Exploring sample materials and reflecting on content processing from a learner's perspective.
- Introduction to authoring tools to provide scaffolded input materials.
- Enhancing your understanding of assessment, review, and feedback methods.
- Discovering strategies for further professional development and knowledge-sharing within your school.
By the end of this CPD program, you will be able to enhance your students' reading skills, vocabulary, and overall language proficiency.
Learning objectives
This course's main aim is to familiarize language and subject teachers with ICT tools and related methods to support content oriented instruction.
Delegates will have learned how to:
- design effective CLIL lesson plans and develop related materials
- find and select content and using ICT tools to produce custom text input materials
- use authoring tools to provide scaffolded input materials.with a focus on reading, listening, and viewing skills
- plan and develop ways and instruments for assessment, review, and providing feedback
- make effective use the Open Educational Resource - Clilstore as a valuable resource for both learners and teachers
- select and participate in a community of practice of CLIL practitioners
and will have enhanced their understanding of:
- CLIL theory and principles.
- EU-funded projects that have advanced the dissemination of CLIL methodology.
- strategies for further professional development and knowledge-sharing within your school.
Methodology & assessment
The subsequent practical work is done individually or in small groups depending on the needs and educational levels.
To address the anticipated variety in participants’ interests and needs (in terms of tools, pedagogical approach, target groups and individual technology skills level) most tasks are designed in such a way that they can lead to differentiated relevant learning experiences and outcomes.
Preparation:
Delegates are advised to bring your subject book(s) and/or related digital materials (if available) to the course to be used when creating customised materials and activities.
Assessment
At the end of the week delegates will demo, discuss and assess the teaching & learning materials that they created during the hands-on sessions
Certification details
Personalised certificates will be made available for those participants who actively participated and successfully completed the various course activities and the final course product.
The certificate document includes the key course information including the number of tuition & learning hours and the main topics covered.
