BG - Work with light pollution maps
Light pollution maps
are an online source of info about the spread ot excessive artificial lighting
Our partnership would like to achieve European awareness of the harmful effect, sources and types of light pollution. That motivated us to raise the students' understanding of the light pollution spread all around Europe and the world. To acieve that our students visited a website
lightpollutionmap.info
and did some reasearch on the issue.
Here are some of the conclusions they came to:
Belgium and the Stlantic coast of Portugal feature some of the highest levels of light pollution in Europe
French Guiana and the Asores are the least affected
Bulgaria stands in the middle.
we can easily measure light pollution by hovering over a place and checking the Bortle scale unit
Urban areas feature 5-8 units on the Bortle scale
Mostly light polluted urban areas glow at the maximum of 8-9 units.
By doing the project cooperatively we are able to raise awareness on the problem in our countries and then convey the meaningful messages of our outcomes across Europe.
