TESSIE – A resource for evaluating equity and inclusion in mainstream education

The TESSIE Toolkit is both a framework and a collection of national and regional inspection tools and evaluation approaches, created by a project consortium of seven partners.

The TESSIE Toolkit supports dialogue between European education partners (inspectorates, training services for schools, school leaders, teachers and learning support assistants) in the pursuit of quality and equity in mainstream educational settings.

The TESSIE framework draws upon a range of research and literature and has been informed by the inspection frameworks of participating partners. In developing the framework, the project partners took part in professional development activities, e.g. evaluating provision for disadvantaged learners and testing aspects of the framework. The partners consulted learners, school staff, leaders and organisations that address disadvantages amongst young people.

TESSIE Tools is a collection of national tools. Approaches of the project partners are provided as examples of how social inclusion and equity are evaluated in the context of the respective education systems of the project partners during the project (2019–2021).

TESSIE was developed within an Erasmus+ -funded project called ‘Better inspection for better social inclusion' (BIBESOIN).
