Well-being and inclusion for new educational resources (WINER)

Many Romanian parents who find employment in Italy are faced with the decision between uprooting their families or leaving their children in Romania. This has an impact on the educational success and well-being of these children. The Italian economic crisis also saw many Romanian families return to Romania, which led to reintegration difficulties for these children.
The Erasmus+ funded project WINER ran from 2014 to 2016. It was carried out as a collaboration between the Vaslui region (Romania) and the Umbria region (Italy). The general objective was to develop a well-being-based, inclusive educational environment for Romanian children experiencing inclusion and integration difficulties.
The project showed positive results regarding the level of integration of Romanian students in the Umbria Region. For example, migrant and re-migrated students were more easily accepted in schools and communities, the students became more involved in school and community life, and teachers and parents learned how to identify at-risk students and help them integrate or reintegrate into the school environment.
