Peania city extends 13 km northeast of Athens and 4 km southwest of Pallini.
The name Peania is ancient Greek and is the name of one of the richest municipalities of ancient Athens, the Municipality of Peania. In antiquity, this municipality was divided into 'Hypenterthen Peania' and 'Kathyperthen Peania', often called 'Municipality of Peania' (like Piraeus, Piraeus), while the resident was called Peania.

The area is well known for the scattered tavernas by passing visitors and a walk through the city. Peania is also of tourist and cultural interest with the cave of Peania "Koutouki", the neighbouring leontari and the Byzantine findings that accompany its already rich history.
