Teaching mixed-abilities: Inclusion for All

For over a century, education aimed to serve industry, focusing on economic success and separating people by knowledge and labels. True growth, however, requires inclusivity and expansion of horizons. This course explores strategies for inclusive, engaging classrooms, helping all students discover their unique potential through enjoyable activities.

Description

"Teaching Mixed-abilities" focuses on inclusive education, aiming to create a learning environment where every student can thrive. Modern education often prioritizes economic success, isolating individuals by knowledge level, but true growth requires inclusivity. Effective management of mixed-ability classes embraces diversity as a learning opportunity, expanding students' horizons. This course provides strategies to engage all learners, encouraging them to discover and realize their potential through enjoyable, dynamic activities, fostering a classroom culture where differences are celebrated and everyone has the chance to succeed.

Learning objectives

  • Increase awareness of contemporary challenges in mixed-ability classrooms globally, including large classes.
  • Understand factors that affect learning positively or negatively in mixed-ability environments, and assess personal teaching contexts to find solutions.
  • Reflect on teacher beliefs, presence, and roles that support all learners, creating an action plan for inclusive teaching.
  • Build teamwork and collaboration skills for effective communication and shared goals.
  • Exchange good practices, discussing mixed-classroom challenges and solutions in different teaching contexts.
