Description

The course aims to equip educators with the tools and knowledge on how to incorporate sustainable development in education. Making the shift in education towards valuing sustainability is essential in terms of raising generations that will take action and be the driving force for environmental integrity, and economic viability with respect to cultural diversity. The course will enable learners to address present and future global challenges constructively and creatively and to create more sustainable and resilient communities.

Learning objectives

The course aims to develop participants’ awareness and creativity in designing lessons, workshops and projects to promote sustainable development in their organisations and the whole community.

Specific objectives of the training are:

Introduce the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development, its 17 Sustainable Development Goals and Education for Sustainable Development (ESD)
Show the importance of Education for Sustainable Development (ESD) to educational institutions and teachers
Show participants how to design workshops to teach sustainability
Show participants how to design their own sustainability projects
Promote healthy systems in the school’s physical place
Improve the participants’ personal and professional skills in teaching
Promote more interactive, caring and horizontal relationships between educators and students
Show the importance of networks and stakeholders involvement in the implementation and promotion of sustainable development

Methodology & assessment

The methodology of the training course includes a learner-centred approach and a focus on enhancing continuous personal development. The aim of the training is not to produce ready-made solutions (passive learning), but to inspire the participants to search creatively for knowledge and effective solutions, which are connected to their needs and challenges (active learning). In this way, the participants take responsibility for their own learning process and act as active partners in the training.

Attention will be given to how to implement the findings and skills in real daily working situations after the training course. Methods such as debate, pair and group work, and individual practical exercises will be used throughout the course.

Assessment of the course combines formal and non-formal assessment methods such as self-evaluation at the end of the course and formal evaluation forms provided by the organisation.

This course helps educators integrate sustainability into teaching through interactive materials, toolkits, and digital tools. Participants engage with case studies, scenario-based learning, and self-assessment tools to enhance environmental education, critical thinking, and eco-friendly teaching practices. Practical resources support fostering responsible citizenship and sustainable development in education.
