Today’s data-driven world requires an up-to-date approach to digital competencies, particularly AI and data literacy. Teachers are also finding out about the impact of AI content when it comes to selecting, creating, and using high-quality digital education teaching materials in the classroom. These and other developments also raise ethical questions about the use of AI.

How and when to use AI

In our expert article, Petra Bevek, from the Slovenian Ministry of Education, explained the need for international discussions on the benefits and risks of AI in education are much needed. A recent UNESCO report on generative AI in education underscores the relevance of human-centred approaches. We also looked at the key role of teacher education in preparing new and current teachers for the future with AI.

AI in practice

Our April practice article looked at some innovative European projects focusing on different aspects of AI in education. These projects have a common aim: to help teachers and schools get prepared for the opportunities and challenges generated by AI.

We also took a closer look at a vocational education school (the Lycée des Arts et Métiers) in Luxembourg, who are using AI to enhance their teaching practices and students’ learning.
