Lienz - Tielt - Krakòw - February 2023

During the exchange-week in Lienz, Austrian, Belgian and Polish students worked on walls that tell stories. They visited sights in Lienz and Venice and tried to find the hidden stories of the walls that they were either shown or discovered themselves. In Lienz they, for example, learnt about witch trials in the 17th century that took place at Bruck Castle, a historical building that normally is not associated with these events and this epoque. In Venice they - to give another example - discovered a building that was actually built by Belgians at the turn of the last century. The search for these stories turned mere historical facts into more personal stories that brought history alive and made it therefore more understandable for students. As a consequence it was also easier for them to compare and contrast cultural heritage in different European countries and to see the links between them.

Venice

Besides listening to stories of historical places in East Tyrol and Venice, all students from Tielt and Belgium worked on a large art project where they recreated installations inspired by various European artists. These sculptures and installations were not only placed in different locations at the school but also photographed and then inserted in one wall that was especially built for it by the students. That way the entire project was digitalized and preserved for the future and can be now looked at in the entrance hall of the BG / BRG Lienz.
