Cultural heritage - Literary routes: Following the footsteps of Andersen, Picasso, and Lorca in Andalusia (Málaga, Granada, Seville - Spain)

Cultural heritage is an important aspect of education that can help students/citizens gain a better understanding of the world. People can become more aware and respectful of other cultures. This knowledge can also help us develop critical thinking skills as we learn to analyse different cultures and their interaction. Ultimately, we become more culturally sensitive and compassionate citizens.

Description

A way to achieve diversity, is the study of travelling writers. These writers have been travelling throughout the centuries driven by new perspectives, different customs and ways of life and anthropological interest. They perceive insights that they may not have been able to access through books or other media. Through their study, we can join in the insights of the writers.

Hans Christian Andersen was a renowned Danish author and one of the travelling writers known for his fairytales. Andersen's visit to Spain, specifically Malaga, inspired him to write about the country's cultural heritage, which he included in many of his works.

Following him, we encounter other artists with personal preference to Andalusia. Pablo Picasso (Malaga) and Federico Garcia Lorca (Granada), both were fond of cultural heritage. Artistically, Seville has nothing to envy from these cities. Hence that it is the city where the scenarios of over 150 operas occurred there! No wonder that it is the city first declared by UNESCO as Creative City of Music in 2006, which is a commitment to promote music as a means of social and economic development. Moreover, it was recognised by UNESCO as Intangible Cultural Heritage for its flamenco tradition.

Trainers will be in contact with the participants in order to solve any questions or doubts and provide advice on accommodation, airports, airlines etc. They will also familiarize participants with the website of the seminars (https://www.learntoteacheu.org/116-literary-routes-andalucia) which will be used to upload pedagogical material created during the course duration.

  • Course fee: 510 euros per person.

It includes the course fee, entry tickets where needed, and transportation within the working days of the course. Airport transport and accommodation are not included.
Please, take into consideration that sending institutions should have an insurance coverage for their participants as stated in the Erasmus+ Quality Standards for Mobilities.

Learning objectives

With this course, we aim to explore the artistic production of Andersen, Picasso, Lorca and aspects of Intangible Cultural Heritage elements, especially music, that have contributed to the spread of Spanish culture.

Our goal is to transfer the knowledge obtained to the participants' communities and link the activities to their own reality. Students or citizens will be able to appreciate their own cultural and intangible heritage and thus, become more aware of their own roots.

Aiming to be culturally sensitive and compassionate citizens, this course is ideal to demonstrate how our heritage is shared and common, with more similarities than differences. The global citizen that the travelling writers were searching, can be a reality.

Furthermore, we aim to facilitate our participants in their quest for networking and collaborating with other participants and institutions. Following the original objectives of Erasmus+, we take very seriously the exchange of ideas, experiences and methodologies. Thus, our day to day programme, includes theory, discussion, cultural activities and practice.

Methodology & assessment

Our courses are thought in a way that theory and practice combine with our participants' working experiences. Exchange of practices and methodologies provide a rich environment of examples and ideas that each one can transfer to their own reality and with their own means. The pedagogical material that we offer can be used, open and free under Creative Commons (CC) which is one of the criteria of Erasmus+. We always try to meet all methodologies so our material is always linked to ICT for those who can apply them in their teaching process.

Participants are asked to create a simple activity (teaching or other) and upload in on our working platform. In this way, produced material can be shared among the group and thus, enrich their pedagogical activities obtained.

To ensure optimum enjoyment of the course, we communicate the next day's briefing and we create a group communication tool in order to avoid changes or unexpected situations. Our goal is to enhance the exprerience and to construct relationships among the participants and our trainers that can lead to future partnerships and collaborations.

Certification details

We take our participants' personal development seriously and consequently, we offer a Certificate of Attendance that is in line with the specifications of Erasmus Quality Standards for Mobilities. The Certificate states the number of hours of the course (30), the place and date of the course and the participant's name. Our participants usually need to produce a simple activity/product which will be uploaded in our working platform. Upon the completion of this task, the participants can receive the certificate.

We also certify and sign the Mobility Agreement, Quality Commitment and Europass Mobility or any other document our participants wish to obtain in order to comply with Erasmus+ and/or their personal development.
