Magic and security: A smart kid’s guide to the online world of wonders

The world of the internet can be a wonderful and strange land, with many fascinating places, interesting inhabitants, fun and games and information. But it also has some dangerous areas that everyone – particularly young people – should avoid.
A Smart Kid’s Guide to the Online World of Wonders enables children to engage with how the internet works, the magic they can do with programming and how to freely roam the online landscape in a safe and secure way. The guide was originally created by Kosmos dla Dziewczynek (the Cosmos for Girls Foundation) in Poland, which works to ensure equal opportunities for boys and girls.
Along the way, children learn internet skills by taking on a series of fun challenges about:
- How the internet works
- The first steps of programming
- The people they may encounter online
- How to identify what is true online and what is false
- How to protect their data and private information
- How to be a digital detective
The guide also gives children real-life introductions to the work of a security expert and a game designer, and at the end of their learning journey, they can establish their own set of rules for how they want to use the internet.
