
CREATING THE DEMOCRATIC ADULT EDUCATION CLASS 5 DAYS
The course will focus on the reasons why and on the ways how the adult educators can make their groups of adult learners essentially democratic and boost critical thinking, which is a condition of democracy. Participants are expected to have at least B1 level of English proficiency.
Description
The course consists of 25 didactic hours and includes the following modules:
- Introduction of participants, outline of the programme, warm ups and ice breakers
- Overview of approaches to adult education
- Brookfield’s foundational work for adult teaching: his conception of critical thinking
- Practices to inform democratic and critically reflective citizens
- Individual support
- Presentation of outcomes, discussion, evaluation and closing session
- Teambuilding and networking activities
- City tour or a cultural trip
Learning objectives
- Improve the participants’ pedagogical competences regarding adult education (and not only).
- Understand the student-centered, emancipatory approach of adult education initiated by Freire.
- Recognize the importance of the democratic atmosphere in classroom.
- Acquire competences to implement the principles of democratic teaching and learning.
- Develop critically reflective teachers as a prerequisite to develop critically thinking citizens.
- Provide a wide set of practices that help adults’ classes become authentically democratic and emancipatory
- Improve English fluency (official language of the course).
- Promote intercultural awareness.
- Share experiences of student centered and emancipatory methods in adult education from different organizations in order to help each of us to be more effective in our work.
- Strengthen the European collaboration among people involved in adult education in different contexts.

All the materials will be made available to the participants in digital form upon completion of the course.
Certification details
Certificate includes the topic, dates and location of the course. We can list the record of learning outcomes on the Europass Mobility Document on request of participants.

Course package content:
The course fee includes tution and materials for the course. Accommodation, meals and transportation are not included and participants are expected to organize and cover for these expenses by themselves. We do not charge anything extra apart from the 400 EUR course fee.

Cancellation & changes:
Free cancellation up to 30 days before the start. After that, the reservation is not refundable. Changes in name and profile of the participant are possible any time before the start of the course. In case of extraordinary circumstances we will offer a free re-schedualing to be used within 6 months.
