SUSTAINABLE: Sparking Understanding of SDGs Through AI and Novel Approaches in Balanced Learning Environments

In an AI Driven era, teachers should adopt innovative educational strategies to teach the use and the ethics of AI through real-world challenges, such as sustainability. Thus, this project aims to empower teachers with these strategies and cutting-edge digital and AI tools to enhance their students' digital competences while exploring the 17 Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). Each month, based on an novel teaching methodology (PBL, IBL, Personalized learning, Experiential Learning, Collaborative Learning, Flipped Classroom, Game-Based Learning, Storytelling and Socratic Seminars), students will implement activities using digital and AI tools related to one of the 17 Global Goals and the relative International/World Day. Thus the project will be based on 3 axes: Sustainability, Innovative learning and Emerging technologies. By integrating emerging technologies into the classroom, teachers will create engaging, interactive activities that not only foster digital literacy but also deepen students' understanding of global challenges. Through AI-driven platforms and collaborative digital tools, students will develop critical thinking, problem-solving, and communication skills, all while contributing to meaningful discussions on sustainability and global citizenship. The idea of this project is based on the ESEP online course "Unlocking the power of teachers' digital competence: Innovative teaching and learning strategies". https://sustainable-etwinning-project.webnode.gr/

II. osnovna škola Čakovec, Croatia - story, games and Twinspace forum

Today my students have read the Harry's story. Students have proposed some titles for our story, and we choosed the final proposal from our school (you can find it on Twinspace forum).

Also, students worked on Twinspace forum and they wrote thoughts about our collaborative story. Some students wrote comments on Project Journal, too.

In addition, my students played two online games created by our eTwinning partners (Blooket and Genially).

This month, we explored inspiring videos and used them as a spark to create a series of powerful images centered around Earth Day. Through this creative journey, our students became more aware and deeply moved by the realities of our planet’s environmental issue, especially the urgent challenge of climate change.

We then took it a step further by using the ChatterPix Kids app to produce engaging short videos—little "shorts" packed with big messages! These mini-spots were shared with our classmates, capturing their attention and sparking conversations about how we can all make a difference for the Earth!

Dear partners, my students and I read our collaborative story once again and discussed the title suggestions. We took a vote in class and determined our title suggestion for our collaborative story. We shared our suggestion in the forum section.

II. osnovna škola Čakovec, Croatia - Earth Day

My students completed the April task related to the Earth Day. First, students watched two videos, and then worked on our collaborative task (they generated Earth image for our partners and worked in ChatterPixKids). We had a lot of fun, especially with ChatterPixKids! On the occasion of the Earth Day we decorated our pinboard, too.

April activities

In April, Year 6a students celebrated Earth Day by watching a film offered by our partners. They then generated an image of our planet using AI. Using the ChatterKid app, they recorded a message to match the image created by their Greek colleagues. The video can be viewed on yt :)
