Power up the city with renewable energy

Suggestion: Pupils from the assigned TGs research solar and wind energy. They create a database of questions and possible answers from which a quiz is made (collaboratively)

Tool: Kahoot/Quizziz

Coordinator: Anna

Solar Farms have lots of solar panels that absorb sunlight and turn it into electricity. Many solar farms have wildflowers growing around the panels which provides important food and habitats for bees, butterflies and other wildlife.

Solar farms are great because -

It’s a renewable energy meaning that we will never run out of it.

It’s also clean energy because unlike fossil fuels (like oil and gas), it doesn’t pollute the air and waters.

Solar farms can be on land, rooftops, vehicles - like bikes and cars, and on devices - like mobile phone chargers.

Did you know? Solar panels aren’t perfect because they are made of natural resources (metals) that need to be carefully taken from the ground without harming the environment, but they are still a really important part of reducing climate change.

A wind farm is where lots of wind turbines are all in one windy place. A wind turbine works in the opposite way to a fan. Instead of using electricity to turn the blades and make wind, it uses wind to turn the blades and make electricity.

Wind power is great because -

It’s a renewable energy meaning that we will never run out of it.

It’s also clean energy because unlike fossil fuels (like oil and gas), it doesn’t pollute the air and waters.

Wind farms can be on land, in the sea or on rooftops.
