Approximately 80 pupils of the four partner schools particpated in this online meeting on the topic of food waste.

Before the meeting on food waste started the pupils of the different partner schools gave a brief presentation about the other three participating schools, their cities and their countries, based on interviews held during the kick-off meeting on December 16, 2020.

The meeting on food waste was organised by Gymnasium Beekvliet in close cooperation with the International Food & Agribusiness faculty of the Hogere Agrarische School (HAS) in Den Bosch, The Netherlands. Prior to the meeting pupils had watched the movie "Wasted: the story of food waste” as a "warm-up" and to give them an idea of the extent of this problem.

Neeltje Bekkers, Bram van Helvoirt and Heleen Prins provided a presentation on food waste to start the online meeting. Pupils joined the meeting from home due to the lockdown. Following the presentation internationale discussion groups were formed with pupils from each school. The discussion in each group was coordinated by a student of the HAS, often also from their homes all over the world!

The discussions were based on a number of questions and stastements related to food waste. These were discussed and answwers were formulated. In addition, pupils were asked to come up with a slogan related to food waste and how this could be reduced.

The goal of the meeting was to create awareness of the extent and impact of food waste, and to look at the issue taking a broad(er) perspective, including aspects such as behavior, opinion and sentiments. This stimulated a feeling for the complexity and diversity of the subject, which hopefully broadened the pupils' horizon and made them aware of the value of a broad perspective.
