Icebreaker Activity

"Beyond Stereotypes" –                                           Let's break the "clichés" together!

🔹 Objective:
Get ready to challenge stereotypes and share your own stories! Together, we’ll find out if these clichés are true, false… or somewhere in between.

🔹 How to play:

1️⃣ Form your groups and get your stereotype card from your teacher.

2️⃣ Read your stereotype aloud and discuss it within your group.

  • Is it true? False? Sometimes a bit of both?
  • Share your personal experiences, funny stories, or surprising facts!

3️⃣ Group time!
After your discussions, each group shares what they’ve learned with everyone.

4️⃣ Time to vote!
As a whole group, decide: is this stereotype mostly TRUE or FALSE based on your experiences?

🔹 Extra fun:
Spice up the game with little challenges linked to the stereotypes!
👉 Know a traditional dance? Show us!
👉 Want to describe (or even draw!) a typical dish from your country? Go for it!
👉 Any stereotype you love to debunk? Now's your moment!

💡 Goal:
Have fun, learn from each other, and prove that we’re all much more than clichés!

ITALY
We are not obsessed, but very proud of our own food.
We need to express ourselves with our hands, not everyone do it, but is so common.
There are two sides, one of people on time and other one for people late.
We love this sport, expecially boys. We are not fanatics, but really competitives and there are many people who cheer for a team.

We have a cultural melting pot because there are a lot of religions (such as Hinduism, Christianity, Muslim religion and Boudist)

The weather, landscape and sea help people lifes to be less stressful so that our island is considered as a relaxed island

There is a wide variety of spices and chilly (Massala; Saffron, Turmeric...). That comes from India.

Maël, Camille, Arianna, Gil
Concerning Italy, the stereotypes were half true, half false. The stereotype about being "always late" is wrong. Basically, it depends on the people. Arianna isn't always late, whereas one of her friend is. And it's the same for talking with hands. It depends on the people. Therefore, one stereotype that is true is that in Italy, they eat a lot of pasta with tomatoes, carbonara, bolognese, mostly for lunch.
