Communication from Zeinab Ahmed (Bibliotheca Alexandrina)
"Dear partner,  Good morning,  I hope that you are all fine.                     

First of all thank you for your continuous cooperation.                   

For 21 consecutive years, the Bibliotheca Alexandrina (BA) Planetarium Science Center (PSC) has successfully organized Eratosthenes event on 21 June every year since 2003; the day of Summer Solstice in Alexandria and Aswan. The festivity aims to revive the memory of Eratosthenes, the Greek scientist and the third librarian of the Ancient Library of Alexandria, who was the first scientist who measure the circumference of the Earth before 2000 years ago in these two cities. this year the festivity will take place on June 23rd  at the BA Plaza and we will invite the students to participate in the event’s activities.                   

We would like to invite you this year to join us as one of our partners in this event. The way we thought about doing it this year is to receive photos of your students doing Eratosthenes experiment and their results on or before 23rd of  June, so that we can prepare a video compiling photos and measurements from all partners to be displayed to our students taking part at the event. The video will include also, our results, footage from Aswan trip and glimpses of our event’s activities in Alexandria. Such video will be shared with all partners after the event.  Looking forward to receive your feedback and confirmation of participation,  Thank you and best regards."

Celestial Dome Scientific Center of the Cultural Communication Sector of the Library of Alexandria organized the annual Eratosthenes Festival over two days 20 and 21 June 2024 at the Expedition Center in Com Ambo and قصر ثقافة العقاد باسوان with the participation of about 200 of our dear students to participate in a visit to Alventina Island where there is a well in the ground and the implementation of the operation of measuring the perimeter of the sphere.
