Sustainability: The legacy of rivers and oceans, present and future (Lisbon, Peniche - Portugal)
H2O is a simple formula leading to the possibility of creating life. Water is life. A small change in its characteristics can imply a complete change of the balance of the Earth. Today, our major concern is the possibility of water shortage, or its excess, both causing climate changes. Thus, the resulting human consequences range from large-scale migration to potential conflicts.
Description
In Lisbon, capital of Portugal, the Tagus River plays a crucial role in the water supply. It flows through the city and empties into the Atlantic Ocean. The river's estuary is an important ecological area, providing habitat for a diverse range of plant and animal species. However, the river has been affected by pollution from industrial and urban activities, which has led to environmental degradation affecting the ocean quality. Therefore, the city/country has implemented policies to protect the river, promote sustainable water management practices and protect the ocean as well. These policies have helped to improve the water quality in the river and protect the ecosystems and the ocean. So how are the ocean and river protected and which actions are taken for a sustainable future? The answers can be found in the legacy of water: traditional fishing methods, sanitation of wastewater, tourism, sports, research on micro-plastics, urban water distribution but also in the legacy of Avieiros (the river-people). The participants, linked to formal school education, are expected to discuss the perspectives of water, having in mind how to create a future generation that is more conscious of their water usage and more likely to take steps to protect nature and water.

The main objective of this course is to promote awareness about water conservation, sustainability of freshwater resources, and use of new technological opportunities around the world related to water supply, distribution, and varied use. At the same time, to highlight the importance of the oceans and their preservation but also the legacy and heritage of the water as traditions are essential for the preservation of our past and for the sustainability of our future.
Furthermore, we aim to facilitate our participants in their quest for networking and collaborating with other participants and institutions. Following the original objectives of Erasmus+, we take very seriously the exchange of ideas, experiences and methodologies. Thus, our day to day programme, includes theory, discussion, cultural activities and practice.

To ensure optimum enjoyment of the course, we communicate the next day´s briefing and we create a group communication tool in order to avoid changes or unexpected situations. Our goal is to enhance the exprerience and to construct relationships among the participants and our trainers that can lead to future partnerships and collaborations.
Certification details
We take our participants' personal development seriously and consequently, we offer a Certificate of Attendance that is in line with the specifications of Erasmus Quality Standards for Mobilities. The Certificate states the number of hours of the course (30), the place and date of the course and the participant's name. Our participants usually need to produce a simple activity/product which will be uploaded in our working platform. Upon the completion of this task, the participants can receive the certificate.
We also certify and sign the Mobility Agreement, Quality Commitment and Europass Mobility or any other document our participants wish to obtain in order to comply with Erasmus+ and/or their personal development.
