Inclusive games and sports for outdoor & beach (Larna - Cyprus)
Inclusion can be defined as the practice or policy of providing equal access to opportunities and resources for people who might otherwise be excluded or marginalised, such as those who have physical or intellectual disabilities, members of minority groups or people of a different gender or skin colour.
Description
As educators, it is essential that we recognize the importance of promoting an inclusive and diverse environment inside our classrooms but also outside. It is here that scholars are suggesting the use of outdoor sports and games to combat discrimination. The benefits of incorporating them in our work are vast. These sports/games encourage physical activity, teamwork, and problem-solving skills. They also foster a sense of community and connection and form a relation with nature.
Physical education teachers, but not only, will have the opportunity to learn the rules of these sports, practise them with other teachers and at the end, teach them to their students. They are all carefully selected to be easy to play, without any complex rules and with equipment which is affordable and easy to find. Furthermore, their advantage lies in the fact that they can be adapted and can be played indoors, outdoors or at the beach. At the same time, traditional games will play their part in this course as they are inclusive in their majority and the students love to play them often and not only in fairs and special occasions. Teachers will expand their knowledge in traditional games and have a variety of tools to teach their students.
Trainers will be in contact with the participants in order to solve any questions or doubts and provide advice on accommodation, airports, airlines etc. They will also familiarise participants with the website of the seminars (https://www.learntoteacheu.org/115-outdoor-sports-larnaca) which will be used to upload pedagogical material created during the course duration.
- Course fee: 490 euros per person. It includes the course fee, entry tickets where needed, and transportation within the working days of the course. Airport transport and accommodation are not included. Please, take into consideration that sending institutions should have insurance coverage for their participants as stated in the Erasmus+ Quality Standards for Mobilities.
Learning objectives
One of the most significant aims of this course is to promote inclusivity and equality and to break down traditional stereotypes and provide a safe and supportive environment for all students to participate in an environment that fosters important values such as respect, acceptance, fairness, and cooperation. We will provide an opportunity for students to explore new activities and interests, which can contribute to their overall well-being and happiness.
We also aim to demonstrate inclusive outdoor sports and games that are unknown to most educators. By practising these sports/games, educators can experience the difficulties students may face by playing them and thus, realise the necessity of inclusive sports and games in their teaching routine. The goal is to create a classroom that is welcoming, supportive, and empowering for all students no matter their physical appearance (skin, age, race, disability, gender...)
Furthermore, we aim to facilitate our participants in their quest for networking and collaborating with other participants and institutions. Following the original objectives of Erasmus+, we take very seriously the exchange of ideas, experiences and methodologies. Thus, our day to day programme, includes theory, discussion, cultural activities and practice.
Methodology & assessment
Participants are asked to create a simple activity (teaching or other) and upload in on our working platform. In this way, produced material can be shared among the group and thus, enrich their pedagogical activities obtained.
To ensure optimum enjoyment of the course, we communicate the next day's briefing and we create a group communication tool in order to avoid changes or unexpected situations. Our goal is to enhance the exprerience and to construct relationships among the participants and our trainers that can lead to future partnerships and collaborations.
Certification details
We take our participants' personal development seriously and consequently, we offer a Certificate of Attendance that is in line with the specifications of Erasmus Quality Standards for Mobilities. The Certificate states the number of hours of the course (30), the place and date of the course and the participant's name. Our participants usually need to produce a simple activity/product which will be uploaded in our working platform. Upon the completion of this task, the participants can receive the certificate.
We also certify and sign the Mobility Agreement, Quality Commitment and Europass Mobility or any other document our participants wish to obtain in order to comply with Erasmus+ and/or their personal development.
