Description

This course is designed to provide teachers with the knowledge, skills, and strategies needed to effectively teach in a mixed ability classroom. Through a series of interactive and engaging activities, participants will explore topics such as neurodiversity, different learning styles and intelligences, and special education needs.

Participants will learn how to create a positive and inclusive classroom environment that supports all learners, including those with dyslexia, dyscalculia, dyspraxia, ADHD, and autism. They will also learn how to use multisensory learning techniques and games to support diverse needs, as well as how to differentiate instruction, scaffold, and accommodate learning to meet individual student needs.

The course will also explore the use of ICT tools such as flipped classroom models and strategies to promote learner autonomy. Participants will learn how to implement effective assessment, evaluation, and feedback strategies that support student learning and progress in a mixed ability classroom.

By the end of the course, participants will have gained a deeper understanding of mixed ability classrooms and the challenges they present, as well as a range of effective strategies and techniques to address those challenges. Participants will have an opportunity to practice implementing these strategies through a microteaching session, and will receive a certificate of completion to recognize their skills and knowledge gained through the course.

Learning objectives

  • Develop an understanding of mixed ability classrooms and the challenges they present, including an awareness of neurodiversity and the range of learning differences that students may exhibit.
  • Explore strategies for building rapport, compassion, and empathy with students, and learn how to create a positive and inclusive classroom environment that supports all learners.
  • Develop an understanding of different learning styles and intelligences, and learn how to use multisensory learning techniques and games to support the diverse needs of students in a mixed ability classroom.
  • Explore strategies for differentiated instruction, scaffolding, and accommodations, and learn how to adapt teaching materials and activities to meet the needs of individual students.
  • Develop an understanding of key special education needs, including dyslexia, dyscalculia, dyspraxia, ADHD, and autism, and learn how to identify and support students with these needs in a mixed ability classroom.
  • Explore the use of ICT tools to support mixed ability classrooms, including flipped classroom models and strategies to promote learner autonomy.
  • Develop effective assessment, evaluation, and feedback strategies that support student learning and progress in a mixed ability classroom.
  • Participate in a microteaching session to practice implementing strategies and techniques learned throughout the course.

Methodology & assessment

This Mixed Ability Course is designed to be highly interactive and hands-on, providing participants with practical experience using a range of techniques and strategies to support learners in mixed ability classrooms. Throughout the course, participants will engage in a variety of interactive learning activities, including group discussions, case studies, and practical projects, designed to reinforce the practical application of concepts and ideas covered in the course.

Our experienced instructors will provide personalized guidance and support to help participants develop the skills and confidence to use the strategies and techniques covered in the course effectively. With a focus on practical application and real-world scenarios, participants will be able to immediately apply what they learn in their own classrooms.
