Description

Transform your classroom from a passive space to an exciting and engaging environment through the power of games. This course is a practical guide to both game-based learning (using existing games for educational purposes) and gamification (applying game design elements to your curriculum). Discover how to increase student motivation, foster problem-solving skills, and teach complex concepts in a fun, interactive way.

You will explore various low-tech and high-tech game formats, from board games to digital apps, and learn how to design your own educational quests, leaderboards, and reward systems. This is not just about playing games; it's about leveraging the psychology of play to create deeper and more memorable learning experiences.

Learning objectives

Upon completion of this course, participants will be able to:

 - Differentiate between game-based learning and gamification and understand the pedagogical benefits of each.

 - Design and implement engaging educational games (both digital and non-digital) that align with curriculum goals.

 - Apply gamification elements like points, badges, and leaderboards to increase student motivation and participation.

 - Evaluate existing educational games for their quality and suitability for specific learning objectives.

 - Foster a playful and collaborative classroom culture that enhances problem-solving and critical thinking skills.

Methodology & assessment

This course is designed as a highly interactive and playful "game lab." The methodology is centered on learning by doing: participants will play, analyze, and deconstruct a variety of educational games. It combines hands-on game design workshops with collaborative brainstorming sessions and peer feedback.

Assessment is practical and project-based. Participants will be evaluated on their active engagement and the design of a complete game-based learning activity or a gamification plan for one of their own lesson units. All participants will receive a certificate of attendance.

Materials, digital tools & other learning resources

Participants will receive a digital "Game Design Toolkit" with frameworks, templates, and a curated list of recommended educational games (both digital and analog). We will use online brainstorming and storyboarding tools during the workshops. After the course, attendees will be invited to a shared online library of game-based lesson plans created by course alumni.

Certification details

Upon successful completion of the course, all participants will receive a formal Certificate of Attendance from Erasmus Mobility Academy. The certificate will officially state: the participant's full name, the full course title, the course dates and location, the main topics covered, and the total number of educational hours (25 hours), corresponding to this application form. The document will be signed by the head trainer and will serve as proof of participation for the Erasmus+ Programme.
