
EMPOWERING LITERACY AND CRITICAL THINKING THROUGH ARTS 5 DAYS
This course is aimed at teachers and all those who would like to be able to facilitate meaningful interactions with the works of art and engage their learners in open-ended inquiry for development of critical thinking as well as to use art as stimulus for development of literacy skills. Participants are expected to have at least B1 level of English proficiency.
Description
The course consists of 25 didactic hours and includes the following modules:
- Introduction of participants, outline of the programme, warm ups and ice breakers
- Overview of the approaches to empower literacy and critical thinking through arts
- Building meaningful interactions with the works of art
- Open-ended inquiry for development of critical thinking
- Art as a stimulus for development of literacy skills (Paolo Freire's approach)
- Individual support
- Presentation of outcomes, discussion, evaluation and closing session
- Teambuilding and networking activities
- City tour or a cultural trip
Learning objectives
- Overview of the approaches to empower literacy and critical thinking through arts.
- Facilitating meaningful interactions with the works of art.

- Understanding and the ability to employ Freire’s approach to art as a stimulus for development of literacy skills.
- Developing communication, collaboration, presentation, problem solving, negotiation, critical and creative thinking skills.
- Providing and exercising creative ideas and practical resources for successful implementation of art-based projects and empower literacy and critical thinking in classroom.
- Improving English fluency (official language of the course).
- Promoting intercultural awareness.
- Sharing experiences of empowering literacy and critical thinking through art from different organizations in order to help each of us to be more effective in our work.
- Strengthening the European collaboration among people involved in empowering literacy and critical thinking through art
Methodology & assessment
Materials, digital tools & other learning resources
All the materials will be made available to the participants in digital form upon completion of the course.
Certification details
Certificate includes the topic, dates and location of the course. We can list the record of learning outcomes on the Europass Mobility Document on request of participants.

Course package content:
The course fee includes tution and materials for the course. Accommodation, meals and transportation are not included and participants are expected to organize and cover for these expenses by themselves. We do not charge anything extra apart from the 400 EUR course fee.

Cancellation & changes:
Free cancellation up to 30 days before the start. After that, the reservation is not refundable. Changes in name and profile of the participant are possible any time before the start of the course. In case of extraordinary circumstances we will offer a free re-schedualing to be used within 6 months.
