I.C. ROCCO MONTANO: Sound system of digital Storytelling through the Turkish March from the Ruins of Athens by Ludwig van Beethoven
Turkish music
Turkish music, in the sense described here, is not the traditional music of Turkey, but rather a musical style that was occasionally used by the European composers of the Classical music era.
This music was modelled – though often only distantly – on the music of Turkish military bands. When Turkish music was scored for orchestra, it normally used
extra percussion instruments not otherwise found in orchestras ofthe time: typically, the bass drum, the triangle, and cymbals.Beethoven's Turkish March has been chosen as the so Digital Storytelling. The dynamic scheme of this well-known march is highly
suggestive of a procession passing by. It starts out pianissimo, gradually rising to fortissimo, and then receding back to pianissimo by the coda. In arranging the piece for the school orchestra, most of the parts were left intact, while the string parts (except for cellos) were rescored for a single piano.
