Created by Ana Cristina Ribeiro
Last updated by Ana Cristina Ribeiro 1 year 6 months ago

During the mobility in Portugal, students from the four countries had the opportunity to attend two training workshops on pixilation and stop-motion. With the knowledge acquired, and in team, they built a short film with the themes of the project: Gender Equality and Sustainability.

Program of the workshop:
26/04/2023
08:30 - 09:30 PM Film session "Best of Portuguese Animation 2022" in English

09:40 - 11:20 PM Pixeling Workshop (themed  She's the Change" and GENDER EQUALITY and SUSTAINABILITY)

11:30 - 13:30 PM Stop Motion Workshop (theme She's the Change" and GENDER EQUALITY and SUSTAINABILITY)

Looking forward to watching our films!|

What is animation?

Animation is a method of photographing successive drawings or models to create an illusion of movement in a sequence. Because our eyes can only retain an image for approximately 1/10 of a second, when multiple images appear in fast succession, the brain blends them into a single moving image.

Stop Motion

Stop motion is a form of animation that is easy to do, but can take a very...very long time.

This kind of animation takes a fairly long time to execute as it is estimated 12 frames (or pictures) are about one second of video. There are a few types of stop motion animation and they include manipulating objects, clay, people, cutouts, puppets, and more.

The basic mechanics are similar to the traditional style like a flipbook. However, instead of drawings, stop motion adjusts physical objects in each frame. Anyone who owns a phone or digital camera, can start working with the technique.

Pixilation — moving or animating people

It’s important to note that this kind of animation can take a really long time because as mentioned above, 12 frames equals about one second of video.
