In 2024 Portugal will celebrate its 50th anniversary as a democracy after a long dictatorship. Several initiatives will be held in schools so that this date is remembered, and our cluster of schools is no exception. My Literature students and another colleague’s Art students intend to implement a project on the Memory of our liberty day/ year joining literature, creative scripts, and different forms of art such as photography and filming (short cuts). The main purpose is to gather and capture symbols of democracy in our society, past and present. This project does not intend to be a political statement, but rather an artistic Remembrance object, reflecting the youngest generation's perspective. It has been launched with a play performed at school by the drama group as a teaser to the following, from lectures/ debates to exhibitions and film production. Several other European countries have been through processes of restoring or implementing freedom and democracy, so it makes sense to broaden this project and find other teachers and students who want to join our "remembrance" object with their own perspectives and symbols.
