Eco-Innovators: student activity

Created by Anita SIMAC
Last updated by Anita SIMAC 1 year 4 months ago

This student activity is a continuation of the workshops held in Belgium during the LTTA2.

The goal of this collaborative activity is to engage pupils in hands-on problem-solving using Micro:bits and LEGO sets to find creative solutions for climate change-related challenges.

     1. Climate Change Awareness icebreaker

  • Pupils participate in a brainstorming session to remind each other of the basic climate change challenges and factors.

      2. Introduction to Micro:bits and LEGO Sets

  • Basic tutorials on programming Micro:bits and building with LEGO sets.
  • Short demonstrations of simple projects to spark creativity.

      3. Climate Change Challenges and Solution Brainstorming

  • Pupils form small teams, ensuring a mix of skills and interests.
  • Each team chooses roles (programmer, builder, researcher, presenter).

      4. Climate Change Challenge Research

  • Each team selects a specific climate change challenge to address.
  • Pupils use online resources and conduct basic research to understand the chosen challenge.

     5. Designing Solutions with Micro:bits and LEGO Sets

  • Teams design and build prototypes of their solutions using both Micro:bits and LEGO sets.
  • Programmers code Micro:bits to enhance the functionality of their solutions.

By integrating Micro:bits and LEGO sets into the project, pupils not only gain programming and engineering skills but also develop a deeper understanding of how technology can be applied to solve real-world challenges, such as those posed by climate change.
