A visit to the partner school in Westerlo.
The school implements the Dalton Plan:
The place of work in teaching and the classroom as the dominant work
space, smaller collective forms, pairs and individuals are introduced
as functional pedagogical units in specialized classrooms, laboratories
and cabinets.
The student is completely oriented towards individual work, he chooses
teaching content according to his possibilities and motives, he studies
independently or with a mentor.
The method individualizes student work, independence, creativity and
responsibility, but opponents see in it extreme individualism in student
education; abandoned even before World War 2.The basis of the work plan consists of three structures: the house, the
task and the laboratory.
The house is a classroom that looks like a family home.
Students are assigned age-appropriate tasks, and it is the children's
responsibility to complete these tasks with quality and on time.
In this way, they learn to use their time efficiently and plan their
studies.
The laboratory provides students with the opportunity to become more
and more independent in their research, and at the end they themselves
conduct research on topics that interest them. One subject teacher is
responsible for each of them. The laboratories are equipped with
literature and didactic material with a special section for research
work.
