Mission Starlight: Global Experiment 23rd February 2016

To celebrate the fact that Tim Peake will be the first British Astronaut in space as part of an ESA mission, the RSC has devised the experiment in collaboration with the UK Space Agency. The main experiment will involve holding UV sensitive beads in sunlight with a series of materials or layers and reporting the colour change on the RSC's Global Experiment website. This will mean students will need to be indoors initially then hold the beads out of an open window or go outside for them to get sunlight - (Students will make readings using a colour chart to conclude on the amount of UV protection for that variable). All materials are designed to be cheap and cheerful so will be provided by teachers themselves rather than us. Although each experiment takes place individually, the idea is to have it happen simultaneously on Tuesday 23rd February to celebrate the anniversary of the world record.
