Be Smart, Be Green!

Our overall goal is to enable students to acquire key European competencies by using outdoor learning and ICT tools, familiarising them with the environmental issues around and making them aware of the responsibility we all have towards nature and natural resources. Since the project addresses a general problem focused on the EU level, we will not be able to find all the problems related to waste management and elimination of environmental impacts, so we aim to make a deliberate effort to educate young people to be more environmentally conscious citizens. The objectives set out in this project are: O1. Developing a sense of responsible behaviour of the school communities participating in the project towards environmental protection; O2. Raising awareness of the students involved in the project as regards climate changes and its effects on the environment and human life; O3. Increasing responsibility for students' own health and well-being by involving them in some specific activities of the project. O4. Improving the digital and language skills of the students and teachers participating in the project; O5. Developing the students’ civic, participatory and responsible attitude as a result of their involvement in the project activities. Firstly, the main priority of the project is environmental quality and the fight against climate changes. That is why, the firstthree objectives proposed in the project will be achieved by carrying out activities having as key topics environmental protection and improving students' life skills. By participating in activities such as making works of art from recycled materials, designing posters to promote the reduction in resource consumption, selective recycling, designing environmental awareness greeting cards, participating in eco-friendly activities, making projects with "Ideas for a green place", filmmaking on climate change, etc., students will become more aware not only of environmental issues, but also of the solutions that each of them should apply to contribute to sustainable development. Participating in sports competitions and round tables on healthy eating and the measures that students should take to improve their health will foster students' responsibility for their own health and well-being (a major aspect of the European Climate Pact). Secondly, both teachers and students will improve their digital and English learning skills during activities which are supposed to use digital devices, communication applications, and networks to access and manage information in order to design different products, participate in virtual mobilities and write and present different materials in English. Then, while sharing information and examples of best practice, the teachers participating in the project will improve their teaching skills, too. On the other hand, students will develop their civic skills, becoming more responsibile and taking part actively in eco-friendly activities like selective waste collection.
