Living with the Climate Change

Living in the era of climate change and in a world full of technology we want to introduce our students to technology-based solutions to climate change and solutions to climate change resistance. Through international collaboration students will create proposals for solutions for climate change resistant schoolyards. We will participate in Earth Day activities and introduce our students to the impact of plastic to climate change. The project is aligned with the GreenComp framework - The European sustainability competence framework and the DigComp 2.2 - The Digital Competence Framework for Citizens. In addition, the promotion of the UN Sustainable Development Goals is a part of this project. Using the possibilities of eTwinning, students will get to know schools from other countries, work on more collaborative activities, develop English language skills and apply what they have learned about eSafety.

The challenge

Dear partners! The challenge that was set before us has been achieved. We support our little winged friends by building bird houses and feeders. These will be installed on our school grounds :)

Mustafa Kiriş Ortaokulu Efeler, Aydın, Türkiye / Earth Day Events - "How to reduce plastic in our school" school plan

As part of the "Earth Day" activities, my students thought about the topic "How to reduce plastic in our school" and created a plastic reduction plan for our school. They turned this plastic reduction plan into an infographic with Canva and we shared it with all students on our project board at our school.

Mustafa Kiriş Ortaokulu Efeler, Aydın, Türkiye / “Schoolyards Resistant to the Effects of Climate Change" collaborative e-book

My students have completed work on the collaborative e-book “Schoolyards Resistant to the Effects of Climate Change". For this e-book, we chose the topic "Planting heat and drought resistant trees in the schoolyard" and completed the study process in four steps.

- We started this activity with group work. First, student groups brainstormed about the topic we chose in science class and wrote all their ideas on paper.

- They researched the topic we chose on the internet and read articles.

- My students created images with Canva to add to our collaborative e-book about the topic we chose.

- Finally, my students created the content for our collaborative e-book and added it to shared Google Slides.

8th Primary School of Kifissia- Collaborative Activity - Solutions and proposals for school yards ebook

The participating students completed two pages of the e-book with their proposals and solutions for changing and improving our schoolyard.

They discussed and found solutions to improve the appearance of our schoolyard and make it more appealing to all our students.

They suggested adding wooden benches and kiosks.

It was an interesting and creative activity, and they all enjoyed it!
