About the project

Short description

Photo - mARTh is an international project that connects photography, architecture, and mathematics.

Students will travel on a field trip to a city of their choice. They will choose one part of the city they will photograph in detail. From the photos, they will assemble models (using calculations and proportions) of that part of the city and, if possible, make a video game with the photographed city in the background.

Aims

Through this project, students will work together and will have to rely much on each other. They will have to combine all photos other students took and make faithful models and video game backgrounds. Students will use other students' photos - they will be able to make models (and video game backgrounds) of towns they've never been in.

In a described way, students will have to communicate (in English) a lot and work together.

Work process

November - founders gather all partners and organize a video meeting; teachers agree on further activities and add this project to their curriculum; teachers add students to twinspace, making it possible for students to meet virtually and write or record something to present themselves; Internet safety rules are presented to partners and students; teachers gather parental consent for students' participation in the project

December - students work on a logo proposal; teachers arrange a logo contest; students explore destinations to visit in their homeland or abroad and pick one; teachers explore what tools and software will students need for making 3D models and video games; teachers arrange for students to have all necessary materials; teachers organize workshops for students to make World Architecture Day greeting cards

January - with a three-month-long delay we celebrate World Architecture Day (3rd October) with exchanged handmade 3D and virtual greeting cards; teachers organize field trips for students

February - teachers organize lessons about photography, making 3D models, and making video games; students take lessons about photography, making 3D models, and making video games

March - teachers, and students go on a field trip; teachers arrange folders on Google Disk for students' photos; students exchange photos and city maps and communicate how should virtual or 3D model of the town look like - teachers arrange for them a video conference

- students exchange virtual greeting cards with town photos, mathematical calculations, and sketches for the International Day of Mathematics; students work on their models; teachers arrange exhibitions of students' exchanged greeting cards (that they have printed and plasticized)

April - students finish their 3D models and video games; teachers organize public video conferences through which students will show and explain their work to the World

May - teachers arrange virtual exhibitions of students' work; teachers organize evaluation of the project and apply for the Quality Label

During the whole project, teachers work on the dissemination of the project at school, local, national, and international levels. They disseminate projects at the county, state, and international meetings of teachers.

Expected results

All students' work will be publicly available through TwinSpace. Also, we will record April's public presentation of their work and upload it to YouTube, and, we will make publicly available teachers' virtual exhibition of students' work.

If possible, we can make a document containing lessons in photography, 3D model making, and video game making.

Besides, we will open a FaceBook page for the wider dissemination of the project results and a FaceBook group for teachers' better and quicker communication.
