Nordplus: GreenLight for a sustainable future

GreenLight - for a sustainable future is a cooperation between three schools from Lithuania, Finland and Denmark. All three schools are situated in rural areas and have strategies to promote international cooperation with other partners and to promote intercultural competence among their students. Our current historical period is recognized as a transition towards a more and more sustainable future concerning social, environmental and economic issues, but it is still built upon local and national traditions and culture. Therefore, the school system has a specific responsibility to prepare the students of today who will be to citizens and decision makers of tomorrow. During two years with three working periods - each with a preface and a project meeting - GreenLight will highlight local hands on craftmanship and mirror these towards students’ visions of a sustainable future built on the principles of the Brundtland Report from 1987. Social sustainability contains themes such as inclusion and intercultural competence, which will be highlighted during the project in the way the students act and work together with a focus on different perspectives based on different experiences and cultures. The project will also have a special focus on equality by including students with a variety of special needs – both in prefaces and during project meetings and evaluations. Developing students’ ICT skills will be implemented into as many ways as possible during the project – according to communication, dissemination and digital productions. The main target group of the project is lower secondary school students from grades 7-9 (from 12-15 years) and the main activities of the project are students' mobilities with necessary preparation in between project meetings.
