Digital Media Literacy for Effective Democratic Citizens
In an age of information overload and "fake news," how can we empower students to be informed citizens? This course provides educators with the tools to teach critical media literacy, from fact-checking and identifying bias to understanding algorithms, enabling students to navigate the digital world responsibly.
Description
This course is designed to equip educators with the essential strategies and pedagogical approaches to foster digital media literacy for active and effective democratic citizenship. In a world saturated with information, disinformation, and powerful algorithms, the ability to critically evaluate online content is no longer a niche skill but a fundamental necessity. We will move beyond simple "don't believe everything you read" warnings to provide practical, hands-on techniques for source verification, bias detection, and understanding the architecture of our digital information ecosystems. Participants will explore real-world case studies, learn how to guide students in becoming responsible digital creators, and develop strategies for fostering constructive online discourse. This is a crucial course for any educator committed to preparing students for the complexities of 21st-century citizenship.
