Description

This course is designed to equip educators with the essential strategies and pedagogical approaches to foster digital media literacy for active and effective democratic citizenship. In a world saturated with information, disinformation, and powerful algorithms, the ability to critically evaluate online content is no longer a niche skill but a fundamental necessity. We will move beyond simple "don't believe everything you read" warnings to provide practical, hands-on techniques for source verification, bias detection, and understanding the architecture of our digital information ecosystems. Participants will explore real-world case studies, learn how to guide students in becoming responsible digital creators, and develop strategies for fostering constructive online discourse. This is a crucial course for any educator committed to preparing students for the complexities of 21st-century citizenship.

Learning objectives

Upon completion of this course, participants will be able to:

 - Identify and evaluate a range of AI tools suitable for enhancing classroom instruction and saving time.

 - Design personalized learning activities and assessments using AI-powered platforms.

 - Utilize AI to automate feedback and support the development of student writing and research skills.

 - Critically analyze the ethical implications and potential biases of using AI in education.

 - Create a strategic plan for integrating AI-enhanced pedagogy into their specific subject area.

Methodology & assessment

Our methodology is hands-on, interactive, and collaborative. The course is structured as a series of workshops rather than lectures. Participants will engage directly with real-world examples of media, from viral news stories to social media campaigns. Through a blend of expert guidance, case study analysis, and peer-to-peer learning, you will test tools and strategies in a supportive environment.

Assessment is portfolio-based, culminating in the creation of a practical ""Digital Literacy Lesson Plan"" tailored to the participant's own teaching context. This ensures that everyone leaves with a tangible, ready-to-use resource.

Materials, digital tools & other learning resources

This is a hands-on, BYOD (Bring Your Own Device) course. Participants are required to bring a laptop or tablet. We will provide a comprehensive digital toolkit, including a curated list of online resources, fact-checking websites, and pedagogical guides. All software and platforms used are freely available to educators. All attendees will be given access to a shared online platform for continued collaboration and resource sharing after the course concludes.

Certification details

Upon successful completion of the course, all participants will receive a formal Certificate of Attendance from Erasmus Mobility Academy. The certificate will officially state: the participant's full name, the full course title, the course dates and location, the main topics covered, and the total number of educational hours (25 hours), corresponding to this application form. The document will be signed by the head trainer and will serve as proof of participation for the Erasmus+ Programme.
