Release notes

Here you will find a list of the European School Education Platform releases since 2025.

We summarise the new features, improvements, bug fixes and other changes that were introduced in each release. Given the frequent nature of these changes, the release notes are only available in English and via eTranslation.

Release 7.10 – 29 April 2026

General

  • When creating an organisation, the organisation's email address must now be unique. If the email address is the same as that of another organisation, you will see an error message.
  • Users who created an organisation in the past but were not linked to it due to a previous technical issue will now be linked to the organisation they created (unless someone else has joined the organisation in the meantime).
  • When searching for schools and other organisations in the Connect area, results now only include organisations if your exact keywords are present in the organisation’s title and/or description. You can separate different search phrases with commas.
  • When using eTranslation, pop-overs with explanations and field placeholders are now translated.

eTwinning

  • In the Partner search in the Connect area, it is now possible again to set the Posting type filter to 'eTwinning project idea'. When applying an eTwinning quick filter, you can also switch the Posting type filter back to any other value.
  • Project cards in the New projects sections now show the projects’ approval date in European format (date, month, year).
  • The breadcrumbs of the eTwinning School label winners lists now display the correct year.

Release 7.9 – 25 March 2026

General

  • When creating or editing an organisation, the organisation email address must now be unique.
  • Specific special characters can be used again in the organisation fields.
  • Currencies and amounts are now displayed in line with the Interinstitutional Style Guide.
  • When using eTranslation on a page with filters, headings in option lists are no longer selectable.
  • Classifications for partner finding posts (such as 'Partners for mobility activities') are now consistently displayed for all posts.

eTwinning

  • When an eTwinning School label application is reviewed by a National Support Organisation, the email is now sent at the end of the period, unless the user has the right to reapply.
  • When creating or editing an eTwinning project idea, it is possible again to set the expiration date up to six months in the future.
  • On the Winners list of the European Quality label, sorting is now consistent between result pages.
  • When the original creator of a page in a TwinSpace is anonymised, this no longer removes the author information from all page revisions.

Release 7.8 – 4 March 2026

General

  • Accounts of users whose registration date from the previous platform was overwritten on first login to the new platform now have their original registration date reinstated.
  • Cases where users have no platform ID number are now fixed.
  • When creating a copy of an Erasmus+ post or eTwinning project idea, the user creating the copy is now attributed as the author.
  • When using the platform in a right-to-left language such as Arabic, several styling elements (borders, corners and spacing) are now displayed as expected.
  • Several accessibility issues on the Discover landing page were addressed, including some empty form labels and empty links.
  • It is no longer possible to move courses or Erasmus+ posts from draft to published if the linked organisation is not sanity-checked.
  • Automatic logout now redirects users to the home page instead of a page with a 'no access' message.

Notifications

  • The number of notifications shown in the header now accurately reflects the number of (new) notifications.
  • Notifications are now automatically deleted after six months. In case a notification requires user input (for example to accept a contact request), it is automatically rejected.
  • Emails sent from the platform now include an unsubscribe link, which allows users to stop receiving emails from the platform.
  • Contact request notifications are now removed in all cases when a request is accepted or rejected.

Organisations

  • On the Organisations search page, the region filter now appears as soon as one or more countries have been selected via its filter.
  • When creating or editing an organisation, it is no longer automatically blocked when saving if specific allowed characters are used in the name or description.
  • When selecting 'Leave organisation' on 'My profile' as the last administrator of the organisation, the dropdown list with users to select as new administrator can now be scrolled.
  • The status of organisations is now updated to 'inactive' when its last member is anonymised.
  • When a National Support Organisation merges two schools, the remaining organisation is now correctly set as 'inactive' only when there are no active members in the organisation.
  • When organisations and users no longer meet conditions to apply for eTwinning, they are no longer mislabelled as 'Pending eTwinning validation'.

eTwinning

  • When a project is closed by one of its members, all members are now informed via email.
  • The button to change a pupil's password is now also visible in the list view of the Members page.
  • Teachers can now reset expired passwords for their own pupils and for pupils not associated with a teacher. This functionality is available via Members > Update passwords.
  • The Partner search page no longer shows Erasmus+ posts when using the age-based quick filter for eTwinning project ideas.
  • Project founders can now demote other members from Administrator to Member.
  • On the Quality label for pupils, the coordinator's signature is no longer covering the awarding date.

Release 7.7 – 19 November 2025

General

  • The filters in 'Partner search' have been moved to the left side of the page and modern European Commission styling has been applied. A few issues with the new layout will be addressed in the upcoming releases.
  • Several styling corrections have been applied across the platform, including the text colour for lists and image descriptions, and the spacing around headings in pages and articles.
  • The 'country' filter in ‘Schools and organisations’ and ‘People search’ now correctly shows all eTwinning and Erasmus+ countries.
  • When creating or editing an Erasmus+ Mobility posting, the 'preferred partner country' selector is now shown only once.

eTwinning

  • The latest eTwinning news on the eTwinning landing page are now sorted by publishing date as expected.
  • The validation status of several organisations which were not eTwinning-validated even though they had eTwinning-validated members has now been corrected.
  • When your National Support Organisation (NSO) generates or regenerates the certificate for an event you attended, you'll now receive both a platform notification and an email.
  • When opening Rocket.Chat from a TwinSpace, group or room, users will no longer end up in the chat environment of another user or see that person's name.

TwinSpaces, groups and rooms

  • Pages in TwinSpaces can only be nested three levels deep. When creating or editing a page, the Parent page can now only be set to pages at levels one and two. This way, pages can no longer be (accidentally) saved at the fourth level or lower.
  • After changing the Visibility of a page from 'TwinSpace members' to 'Just me and administrators (draft)' it is now possible to edit the (draft) page as expected.

Notifications

  • When someone creates a meeting in a TwinSpace, group or room you're a member of, or when someone replies to one of your updates in a TwinSpace, you will now be notified via email and on the platform and app.
  • When you have two or more actionable notifications (e.g. an invitation to a project and an invitation to a TwinSpace), you cannot act on the second notification until the first notification action has finished processing.
  • The notification sent when a Discussion was created in a TwinSpace forum is made clearer.

TwinSpace archives

  • You can now only reopen a project if its TwinSpace has not been archived yet.
  • The footer in archived TwinSpaces has been fixed.

eTwinning School label application

Ahead of the eTwinning School label applications early next year:

  • When the submission deadline for the eTwinning School label applications is updated, all eligible users are informed of this change.
  • When calculating eligibility, dormant users are no longer considered. (A school must have 3 active eTwinners to apply.)
  • Results from the eTwinning School label applications will now be visible for everyone at the same time, rather than immediately when a European juror awards or rejects the application.
  • When your school is eligible for the eTwinning School label but the application period has ended, application buttons are no longer visible and clicking a link to apply will show a message that the deadline has passed.

Minor release 7.7.1 – 28 January 2026

  • All courses that do not comply with the current course structure (e.g. missing information in mandatory fields) have been set back to draft status. Users must complete all mandatory information to republish their courses.
  • When searching for Erasmus+ mobilities in the Partner search area, the 'Academic year' filter now correctly shows the current and upcoming period.
  • The link to the eTwinning School label PDF can now only be downloaded by logged-in members of awarded schools.
  • Platform notifications and emails about the eTwinning School label have been revised for correctness and clarity.

Release 7.6.2 – 22 October 2025

General

  • Accessibility has been enhanced by improving contrast and adding form field labels across multiple areas of the platform.
  • When creating an organisation, you are now reminded that special characters such as slashes (/) and question marks (?) are not allowed in the organisation’s legal or public name.
  • Issues with joining, opening and requesting information about a course from the course detail page have been fixed.
  • In the Webinars list, applying or changing the Topics filter no longer resets the Date filter.

Anonymisation

The accounts of users who haven’t logged in to the platform for 3 years or longer will now be automatically anonymised. When an account is anonymised, all personal data is permanently deleted, while any created content remains on the platform without attribution.

Two reminder emails will be sent before anonymisation: one 4 weeks and another 4 days prior to the scheduled date. Users who wish to keep their data on the platform need to log in before their data is anonymised.

For more details, please see the article about anonymisation on our support portal.

eTwinning

When a new teacher bulletin or update is posted in a group or TwinSpace, you now receive a notification in the mobile app.

Release 7.6 – 24 September 2025

General

  • The filters in the 'Connect' area (People and Organisations) have been moved from the top of the list to the left. In the process, the number, type and design of filters have been updated to improve usability.
  • When leaving an organisation as the administrator, the modal to select a successor is now cleaner and clearly shows which users are pending (not full members yet).
  • The contrast between text and background has been increased in several places on the platform to improve accessibility.
  • Several issues with joining webinars, related to the registration deadline and time zones, have been fixed.

Security and spam

  • When creating a course or an Erasmus+ posting with an organisation that has not been sanity-checked yet, it is now possible again to request a sanity check.
  • To improve data handling, when adding a proof of placement while joining a school as a student teacher and then cancelling this action, the uploaded file will be deleted from our systems.
  • To prevent spam being sent via the platform, only eTwinning-validated users can now include links in messages to other users.
  • To improve platform security, users are now automatically logged out after 5 hours of inactivity on the platform.

The following anti-spam measures have been implemented:

  • The profiles of non-validated or non-sanity-checked organisations are only visible to their creator and the platform admins. This means that all non-validated, non-sanity-checked or blocked organisations will not be visible on the web and will be excluded from search engines’ indexing. This prevents spammers from creating organisations with malicious content that could be visible on the web. Please note that only users from validated organisations can publish postings.
  • For security reasons, organisation metadata must not contain links or flagged spam words in the following fields:
    • General information section: legal name, public name, school number, address, town, postal code, email address, phone number (only numbers, spaces, plus sign and brackets are allowed)
    • Principal’s details section: first name, last name, email
    • Profile information section: description
  • If, when registering an organisation, the metadata – specifically the Legal name and Public name fields – contain any of the following special characters:

    • colon (:)
    • forward slash (/)
    • exclamation mark (!)
    • question mark (?)

The organisation (identified as likely spam) will be blocked immediately, making it visible only to the platform admins and reported upon creation. There may be cases where the data from legit organisations may include these characters – in such cases, users should find a workaround.

Course catalogue

  • When a course has multiple sessions that you can join or have already joined, the ‘Join’ button on the course detail page now opens a session selector. You can then join or open any of the sessions.
  • The 'I'm interested' button on all course detail pages has been renamed 'Request information' to make its function clearer.
  • Issues with enrolling in and opening online courses (due to the course’s start or end date or its registration deadline) have been fixed.
  • Unenrolling from online courses is no longer possible from the European School Education Platform, to ensure data synchronisation with the EU Academy. Users that wish to unenroll should contact the central helpdesk.
  • When you click 'Cancel participation' for an event or course organised by a National Support Organisation (NSO), the platform no longer gives an 'Oops, something went wrong' error.
  • Courses by external providers on the ‘Learn’ landing page are now sorted by upcoming first, as expected.
  • The styling of the calendar picker in the course catalogue has been tweaked to improve usability.

Managing courses

  • It is now possible again to delete your organisation's courses from My postings > Courses (accessible from My Dashboard).
  • Cases where an error message appeared when creating a course via My Dashboard have been fixed.

eTwinning

TwinSpaces, groups and rooms

  • TwinSpaces of projects that have been closed for over 12 months will now be automatically archived. This means that a ZIP file will be created, which can be downloaded and contains all published content of a TwinSpace (forum messages, teacher bulletin, materials, pages, etc). The original content of archived TwinSpaces can no longer be viewed on the platform.
    • There is an exception for TwinSpaces of projects that have received a National Quality Label (NQL) and which have an Erasmus+ project ID; they will only be archived if the project has been closed for 2.5 years. This is to allow enough time to use the TwinSpace for evaluation for NQLs and dissemination for Erasmus+ projects.
  • Since the last release, passwords for new pupil accounts have been automatically generated. Some further changes have been applied:
    • The 'passwords' column has been removed from the pupil import spreadsheet template.
    • When changing a pupil’s password via the TwinSpace members list, it's no longer possible to provide a personal password. Instead, a strong password which fulfils the requirements will be generated. To view the password, the password card must be downloaded.
  • Pupil passwords now automatically expire 90 days after the last log-in. When a pupil’s password expires, their teacher and the TwinSpace administrators receive a notification via the website.
    • On the TwinSpace members page, there is now a button 'Update passwords'. When clicked, it shows a list of pupils whose passwords have expired, with a button to '(Re)generate passwords'. This button will automatically create new, secure passwords and new pupil password cards.
    • If a pupil tries to log in with an expired password, they will be notified to ask their teacher for a new one.
  • An earlier release corrected the roles that can be set to members of TwinSpaces and groups. In this release, we're correcting TwinSpace and group memberships of non-validated users:
    • TwinSpaces: degrade from Teacher administrator to Expert, and from Teacher to Observer.
    • Groups: degrade from Admin to Expert, and from Member to Moderator.
    • Check our support article on the roles in TwinSpaces to learn more about each role’s permissions.
  • All TwinSpace members who have permission to view the Teacher Bulletin will now receive a platform notification whenever a new bulletin item is posted.
  • When a new user update is posted in a TwinSpace or group, all members will receive a notification via the website.
  • The pagination of the Teacher Bulletin has been moved below the bulletin posts, and the grey line separating the section title and the bulletin posts has been removed.
  • Cases where the Founder could see themselves twice in the TwinSpace members list have been fixed.

Quality labels and prizes

  • Teachers who received a European Quality Label (EQL) for their participation in a project can now download an EQL certificate for their pupils. The certificate contains the date the project was awarded the EQL, the project title and a line on which the pupil's name can be written.
  • When applying for the National Quality Label:
    • A note is now displayed that the National Support Organisation may access the private TwinSpace content to evaluate the project.
    • It is now possible to save the application as a draft. The application can be edited only when it’s saved as a draft. Once submitted to the NSO, it's no longer possible to edit the application.

Release 7.5 – 24 July 2025

General

  • Various usability improvements across the platform, including design tweaks and added explanations.
  • Past webinars can now be accessed from the Webinars landing page in the Learn area. Via the 'View all' button you can search based on keyword or filter by topic.
  • In the Courses search calendar (Learn area), you can now click month and year to quickly jump to that period in the calendar.
  • Accessibility has been slightly improved by enhancing colour contrast in several areas.
  • All tools now display correctly on translated versions of the 'Self-assessment tools' landing page (Learn area).
  • Users removed from an organisation that falls under the responsibility of another ministry of education ('country abroad') are no longer shown in People search results in the Connect area if they are filtered by that country.

  • Users with multiple organisation memberships now see in 'My Dashboard' the courses created for all organisations, not just the first organisation.

Organisations

  • If you're already a member of an ITE institution or placement school as a 'student teacher' and try to add another, the relevant form sections are now hidden with an explanation instead of showing as disabled.
  • When an organisation is deleted, associated memberships now are deleted as well. Old memberships from deleted organisations have been removed from user profiles.
  • When adding or editing an organisation the 'School number' field is now optional and shown only for schools.
  • When creating a new organisation and applying for eTwinning, the organisation is no longer marked as 'inactive', and their profile pages now load correctly.

  • On affected devices, app navigation buttons are no longer shown behind Android system buttons.

eTwinning

  • When adding or importing pupils into a TwinSpace, pupil passwords must now be at least 6 characters and include at least one non-alphanumeric character.

  • When exporting pupils the column titles are now correct.
  • NQL/EQL badges no longer show on project cards in user profiles for rejected quality labels.

TwinSpaces, groups and rooms

  • User updates no longer appear twice on the landing pages of TwinSpaces, groups and rooms.
  • When adding or editing pages, font sizes set in the text editor now display correctly on live pages.
  • Users with a 'Member' permission in a group can now reply to forum threads.
  • Uploaded images rotated by software via metadata (rather than altering the image itself) are now displayed with correct orientation.
  • The 'Archived pages' list now open correctly instead of showing 'Page not found'.
  • Pupil member cards in TwinSpaces now correctly show last login dates instead of ‘Last access: Never’ when the pupil has been active.

Release 7.4 – 18 June 2025

General

  • The registration dates have been corrected for multiple users whose accounts were migrated from eTwinning or the School Education Gateway. If your account was migrated and you suspect that it still has the wrong registration date, please reach out to the helpdesk.
  • We have closed a path for unauthorised file uploads, to prevent spam being created on the platform.
  • You will now receive a notification with a link to the PDF when your Portfolio is ready, after requesting its generation.
  • The Webinars page in the Learn area now has an overview of recent webinars that you can rewatch.

Organisations

  • When creating or editing an organisation:
    • 'School number' field is now only shown for schools (only in countries that assign these)
    • 'Accreditation' section is no longer shown (it is not yet in use)
  • The Organisations list and search in the Connect area now only list organisations that a) have passed a basic spam check or are eTwinning-validated and b) have at least one active organisation member.
  • When editing an organisation that is neither eTwinning validated nor a School, the Save button now works correctly and saves changes as expected.
  • The 'More options' button is no longer shown when viewing an organisation's profile page when you're not logged in, because you cannot use any of its options.

Organisation memberships

  • To prevent misunderstandings, it is no longer possible to select the 'Teacher Educator' role in a School or the 'Teacher' role in an Initial Teacher Education institution when creating or joining an organisation.
  • When editing the role for an organisation membership in 'My profile', the validation request is automatically removed if you have a pending eTwinning validation request and switch to a role that is not eligible for eTwinning.
  • When a Student Teacher is in placement (in a school), this is now indicated on the user's profile next to ‘role in organisation’.

Editorial sections and design

  • The layout of Project Kit sections in the Teach area has been fixed so that text is no longer cut in half and the 'show more' button only appears when necessary.
  • Resources now correctly appear in the Teaching materials sub-area instead of a separate, hidden Resources sub-area.
  • Surveys that were selected as 'Editor's choice' are now correctly displayed in the Surveys sub-area, instead of the Expert views sub-area.
  • The design of the four cards on the 'Contact and support' page now matches that of similar cards on the homepage.

  • Courses can now be edited as expected, following corrections to the conditions of publishing organisation.

eTwinning

  • Student Teachers who edit their organisation membership via 'My profile' will no longer see fields for pupil ages or subjects taught.

Release 7.3 – 14 May 2025

General changes

  • Clicking 'Add an organisation' in the registration process opens the page to select your role in the organisation, rather than the 'My profile' page.
  • When registering on the platform and adding an organisation, you cannot proceed unless all mandatory fields are completed.
  • For teachers and student teachers who are members of a school or initial teacher education institution but did not yet have a 'Role in organisation', we assigned one. Please check whether the roles you have in your organisations are correct, and contact your NSO if something is wrong.

  • Using eTranslation and clicking on a link in a 'Page content' block in the sidebar no longer triggers a page refresh and eTranslation.

  • The placing and styling of buttons and field labels are improved in a few places across the platform.

Release 7.2 – 12 March 2025

This year we’re focusing on improving existing functionality and fixing bugs. In this release, we addressed several bugs that affected different user groups.

General changes

  • We removed the ‘Not validated’ label for organisations that are not eTwinning-validated (and may not be eligible for validation).
  • It is no longer possible to copy or ‘duplicate’ courses, Erasmus+ postings or eTwinning project ideas created by other users or organisations.
  • When opening a chapter of the Toolkit for School Success, there is now a button to see all that chapter’s resources.
  • Lesson plans are now displayed only in the Teach area (no longer in Discover).
  • The personalised report of the self-assessment tool on inclusion and wellbeing now shows each resource only once, even if it is relevant to multiple sections.

TwinSpaces

  • A teacher can now always remove the pupils they have added to the TwinSpace.
  • Pupils can now delete their own posts on their TwinSpace wall.
  • The TwinSpace members list now shows the organisation the user joined the project with, rather than the user’s default organisation. For pupils it will show the last log-in date rather than ‘never’.
  • The process to invite new users to the TwinSpace has been improved, specifically when you cannot find the person that you want to add.
  • It is now (once again) possible to add tables to pages.
  • Several other, smaller fixes: textual clarity when inviting a user to a TwinSpace or project; the ‘send message’ button is no longer shown for pupils; the icon in Materials > Videos now shows that it’s a download button; uploading pictures is now possible for all pupils.

Groups

  • eTwinners can now again be invited to Groups as Member, while non-validated users can now (only) be invited as Expert, Moderator or Observer.

  • A name with non-Latin characters will now display correctly on your Event certificate.
  • Users who are already linked as Student Teachers to an Initial Teacher Education Institution (ITEI) can no longer add a second ITEI membership.
  • For School Label applications, draft submissions will be displayed in My Dashboard and several texts in the process (on the screen, in emails) will be clearer.
  • When you have a project with a National and a European Quality Label, it no longer says that you don’t have any NQLs in My Dashboard.
  • As of next year’s application period, users whose NQL application was rejected will have a button to re-apply on the project landing page.
  • The European Prize application button is now only visible during the application period.
  • Several texts have been improved to provide more and clearer information: for creating groups, uploading photos or videos, closing an eTwinning project idea or inviting users to a TwinSpace who don’t have an account on the platform yet.

Course catalogue

  • Course sorting has been improved, both on the Learn landing page and in the course search. There are still some issues, which will be addressed in a future release.
  • If a user has flagged a course and the report is closed as invalid, the course provider no longer receives a message that their course was blocked.

Minor release 7.2.1 – 20 March 2025

  • It's once again possible to comment and reply to comments in TwinSpace forums.
  • When creating or editing a page in a TwinSpace, the parent page can now only be set to a page that can be viewed by the user.

Minor release 7.2.3 – 14 April 2025
