- Course description:
This course provides a foundation in medical terminology targeted to a broad range of specializations. Participants are encouraged to request a focus on their specific area of medicine.
A comprehensive review of English medical phonemes will begin the course, enabling participants to assess new terminology. Common terms associated with each field of specialization will be discussed, emphasizing correct pronunciation, spelling and nuances of usage. Common medical abbreviations and acronyms will be reviewed. Laboratory and imaging reports will be studied. For conversation practice, we’ll engage in common interactions that occur with patients. If time allows, peer-reviewed medical studies and their common terminology will be discussed.
Taught by a native speaker with 28 years of clinical practice, this course will give participants more understanding and confidence in English in the clinical setting.
