The EDINA project (Education of International Newly Arrived migrant pupils) brought together policy makers, schools and researchers. The purpose is to ensure that newcomers can access the level of education that corresponds to their cognitive abilities to reduce early school leaving and to support excellent schooling attainment.
Educational inclusion means enabling all learners to achieve their full potential, and this starts with the acquisition of basic skills. This is a central goal in contemporary European education – all pupils should have access to quality education and achieve at least baseline skills in mathematics, reading and science.
The Terälahti school and the Korento nature school in Tampere share the same venue surrounded by versatile nature and a rural environment and help each other develop education for sustainability.
The OECD Programme for International Student Assessment (PISA) measures young people’s competences in basic skills: mathematics, reading and science. The 2022 study involved 690 000 students, representing 29 million 15-year-olds across 81 education systems; all EU countries except Luxembourg participated, and its results were published in December 2023.
Carried out by OECD, PISA 2022 mainly assesses mathematics, along with reading and science. This edition of PISA includes data from 81 countries and economies.
PISA’s goal is to provide evidence-based information to educators and policy makers about the strengths and weaknesses of their country’s education systems, progress made over time and opportunities for improvement. In the EU, Estonia and Ireland are outstanding examples, displaying noticeable improvement over time.
Within and beyond the confines of the classroom, teachers wield a profound influence on the lives of their pupils. Cinema has explored this influential dynamic, portraying educators as crucial role models.
In the heart of every classroom, a teacher’s passion for education and commitment to shaping young minds serves as the driving force behind their chosen profession. The things that inspire teachers – beyond the confines of textbooks and lesson plans – reveal a deep-rooted dedication to making a positive impact on society.
