Teaching that sticks: practical cognitive strategies in the classroom
Cognitive psychology has contributed to our understanding of learning, but how can these strategies together with be implemented into teaching practices?
Description
This course is based on a highly participatory approach where the course is not something you take but something you make. You will get a chance to familiarize yourself with some of the findings from cognitive psychology research on learning strategies. Together we will examine and discuss how innovative learning strategies can be implemented in the classroom and how important it is to create positive and interpersonal relationships between teachers and students. Moreover, you will learn more about how different perspectives on students and learning are linked to and affects classroom teaching.

Methodology & assessment
- Presentation and discussion about how to implement retrieval practice and quiz.
- Group work on how to use use mind-mapping to improve student learning.
- Case on how to implement strategies from cognitive psychology in the classroom.
- Presentation and in-class case assignment on how to design step-by-step cases
to improve student learning.
- Collaborative case assignment on how to motivate students.
- Presentation and practical work using different perspectives on a case study.
- Collaborative learning and indvidual reflection.
Assessment:
The participant is expected to participate actively throughout the whole course programme in order to receive a course certificate. This will be monitored by both the trainer and the course manager. The course certificate will confirm the participant's achievement of the stated course learning outcomes on website of Knowledepro.
Materials, digital tools & other learning resources
Material and learning resources will be handed out and/or be retrievalbe for participants in a drop box fil designated for this particular course.
Certification details
The fulfilment of the course and the content of the learning outcomes will be confirmed in a course certificate signed by the course provider. It is required to participate actively during all five course days, i.e. 100% attendance. Europass can be signed on request.
