Description

STEM inclusion: using the equity compass is a transformative five-day training program designed for educators committed to fostering equity in STEM learning environments. This course equips teachers with the tools and insights necessary to address and reduce inequalities in STEM education, with a focus on supporting girls and other underrepresented minorities. Participants will engage with the Equity Compass framework, explore case studies, and participate in reflective exercises to develop actionable strategies for creating more inclusive and equitable STEM classrooms.

Learning objectives

  1. Understand the Importance of Equity in STEM: Recognize the historical and ongoing challenges faced by women and minorities in STEM fields. Gain insights into the various factors that contribute to inequalities in STEM learning environments.
  2. Utilize the Equity Compass: Learn to apply this evidence-based tool to foster equitable practices in STEM education.
  3. Create an Action Plan: Design STEM learning activities that are accessible and engaging for all students. Use reflective questions and discussions to continually improve personal teaching methods in the context of equity.
  4. Build Confidence in Promoting Equity: Gain the confidence and competence to be advocates for equity in STEM education.

Methodology & assessment

Methodology:
The "STEM Inclusion: Using the Equity Compass” course is a transformative five-day training program that empowers educators to foster equity in STEM learning environments. The course methodology is centered around the Equity Compass framework, which provides teachers with the necessary tools and insights to address and reduce inequalities in STEM education.
The course places a special emphasis on supporting girls and other underrepresented minorities in STEM. Participants will explore various case studies and engage in reflective exercises, which will help them understand the challenges faced by these groups and develop effective strategies to overcome them.


Assessment:
The course utilizes ongoing formative assessment techniques, such as quizzes, team presentations, and reflective journaling. As a culmination of their learning, participants will create a final project that showcases the skills and knowledge acquired. Upon completion, attendees are invited to fill out an evaluation form to provide feedback on the course's impact and effectiveness.

Certification details

This course is designed and run in accordance with the Erasmus+ Key Action 1 Quality Standards for Courses.   Participants are required to attend a minimum of 80% of the course sessions. Additionally, active engagement and participation in group discussions and practical activities are encouraged to enhance the learning experience.   Upon the successful completion of the training course, participants will obtain;

  • Certificate of Attendance: includes the name of the participant and the trainer, the location, the dates, learning hours, and competences acquired.
