Description

Online education demands a shift in teaching strategies, sustained efforts to maintain student focus, and a unique method of assessment when compared to conventional classroom environments.

The purpose of this training program is to provide educators with essential resources to help students navigate the intricate world of digital media. It offers a systematic approach to improving digital skills among teachers, emphasising media literacy and addressing the issue of misinformation.

This training course is designed to create a comprehensive and effective training program that enables teachers to become adept in media literacy education, thereby preparing their students to be critical and informed media consumers and creators.

Learning objectives

  • Enable teachers to comprehend what media literacy is, the different forms of media, and the significance of media literacy in contemporary society.
  • Providing teachers with the skills to identify and critically analyse fake news and misinformation.
  • Equip teachers with digital literacy skills, including effective online research techniques, understanding algorithms, and using fact-checking tools and resources.
  • Provide strategies, resources, and best practices for integrating media literacy into the curriculum. This could include lesson planning, classroom activities, and student engagement techniques tailored to different age groups and learning styles.
  • Empower teachers to cultivate media-savvy students who can navigate the media landscape responsibly and contribute positively to society.

Methodology & assessment

The methodology for this course is highly interactive, with a focus on collaborative learning and critical engagement with content. It includes also a mix of learning environments such as in-person sessions, interactive workshop where teachers analyse various media messages using media education tools, case studies, in role-playing exercises and multimedia resources to cater to different learning styles.

Assessment of learning could include practical demonstrations of skills, reflective writing, and contributions to group discussions. The aim is to equip teachers with both the understanding and the practical skills to teach media literacy effectively and to navigate the complex media landscape themselves.
