The course offers you a series of practical activities and strategies that can be transformed into routines that enhance the wellbeing of pupils and teachers, connecting the social emotional abilities with the cognitive skills and emotional intelligence. These will improve the group cohesion and feeling of belonging and security, that enhance learning as well as the use of modern board games.

Description

Board game-based learning is an active methodology that is commonly used in schools. It involves using board games as educational tools to enhance learning experiences, teachers creating a dynamic and effective learning environment that benefits students across various subjects and skills. The use of modern board games in teaching promotes active learning, critical thinking, and collaboration, making learning both enjoyable and impactful, complementing and enhancing traditional teaching methods, not replacing them. Modern board games cater to various learning styles, can support differentiated instruction, promote inclusion and improve group cohesion thanks to collaborative and cooperative games.

Learning objectives

The main objectives of this program are:
• Find out what wellbeing is and what is not. Wellbeing as a tool for inclusion
• Experience activities that develop the social emotional skills and facilitate group cohesion
• Understand the importance of group routines for the developing of teachers and pupils wellbeing in school
• Know the fundamentals of modern board games.
• Know the difference between traditional and modern board games
• Understand the mechanisms in board games
• Discover the board game-based learning methodological proposal
• Experience different modern board games, connected with the key competences aimed in school
• Know which games are appropriate and how they should be applied to develop key competencies in the curriculum
• Experience the ways board games can be adapted for the different moments in teaching, connected with the teaching aim
• Connect the presented board games with the teaching subject and adapt it to different topics or lesson plans

Methodology & assessment

The program of the course is designed interactively, along with discussions and individual and team exercises. The participants also receive material related to: board games fact-files with detailed instruction and process, classifications of board games according to each key competence, access to methodology guide/video tutorials/, app for the parents, which will help them to use the acquired knowledge in their classes and strengthen the skills of emotional intelligence in their students. At the end, each participant will prepare his own action plan to use in the classroom (example). The course includes a group evaluation in which participants must adapt board games with the material provided, including aspects covered in the course, for a specific purpose
